Many leftists make claims like "Democrats would be center-right in Europe" because they focus on the Democrats' lack of support for socialism. Many leftists are laser-focused on economic issues at the expense of civil rights.

They shouldn't be. Rights fucking matter.

the claim here is that "Democrats would be center-right in Europe," and it falls apart in the health care context if you consider abortion and gender-affirming care to be health care (which you obviously should)
this claim is entirely based on health care and substantially based on misunderstanding European health care systems

The response to "what if Repubs do it too" is SO WHAT. A larger court is much less likely to act like this one

When you go out to eat with 2 people, you could end up anywhere. Food truck, strip club, tasting menu, etc. 20 people? You're going to Danny's.

A court with 30 members will self-moderate
The comments on this video on TikTok are so interesting to me because it is a lot of people saying that we can’t do this because what if Republicans try it to or what if Republicans reverse it. “We have to change the court the traditional way.”

Three people.

Person A is trying to address a problem with limited resources.

Person B is using those same resources to make the problem worse.

Person C says it doesn't matter who we give resources to.

How would you rank these people in terms of actually addressing the problem?
Yes.
Both parties.

I just want to understand what's going through the heads of people who are shocked that in December 2025 we're living under Republican policies when Republicans control every branch of government. I was very upset when this was set in stone over a year ago, I am not surprised now!

Every Democratic Senator voted against Hegseth.
It's almost like the Senate Democrats could have stopped this all ten months ago by holding firm on zero appointment confirmations.

this is an excellent step to take, and it's good he's explaining his reasoning so clearly.

I've seen some skepticism or anger re why does it only when it's his family? I think that's the wrong way to look at it. 1

The Minnesota Fringe Festival needs donors.

Stepping outside of my normal politics posting to talk about something else. A lot of small non-profits rely on grants and corporate donors to keep the lights on.

There are fewer of those this year than last year.

32% response rate for canvassing tonight. Slightly higher if you include the apartment building we kicked off with.

Most people want to be reached out to and heard! They want to know that their vote is desired.

(4) Trump and the Republicans don't have an advantage over Democrats because they *better understand heartland Americans.*

They have an advantage over Democrats because they created their own universe of propaganda outlets, and then went out and bought all the mainstream outlets.

Duh.

"Push a whole bunch of things that will get overturned in court and then totally overhaul the courts!"

With what majority?

This is no different than the people who were whining last week that the ACA did too little. They somehow manage to completely ignore who was actually elected to congress.
Another big conclusion: Biden admin didn't take seriously enough the regulatory state's sclerosis. They were too naive about courts and unprepared to wage war in them.

The report proposes Dems stand for major regulatory *and* court reform going forward:

Ok, but does picking those fights actually accomplish anything beyond winning a media cycle?

Picking a fight with Manchin had him digging in his heels when he could have been won over.

There seems to be a clear trade off between fighting in the news and actually passing legislation.
One compelling conclusion in the report: Biden admin was reluctant to pick “fights worth having” and settled for incremental gains out of “risk aversion.”

Former Labor Sec Julie Su is candid to me about failure to do more to reverse 50 years of worker backsliding:

I don't identify as, or even agree with, much of the DSA. My old Twitter profile will show me arguing with progressives that I thought weren't giving Biden enough credit more than was healthy!

This ridiculous demonization of the DSA by DFL leadership is appalling and disqualifying.

I don’t care what your personal views on the Dems or leadership are, we have a very small window to control this narrative, and it will be impossible if anyone is doing anything but blaming Republicans.

Love the second-guessing. When they know this is a huge and consequential convention, why aren’t the state party and other units offering help?
