I think the Epstein affair is turning into the defining political scandal of our time. It is bringing into plain sight how informal networks of powerful, entitled, abusive and often sexually violent men operate outside any form of institutional scrutiny or restraint.

Quite accidentally, the Daily Mail has given a striking example of the vast compliance cost of the EHRC's guidance: £5m plus £300k pa for the Metropolitan Police alone. And there is no evidence that any of it is necessary.
The Metropolitan Police is facing a £5million bill for new toilets and changing rooms for its 12 transgender staff. Following a legal challenge over the rights of transgender people, Britain's largest police force has assessed the cost of dedicated transgender facilities. The Good Law Project argued that guidance that single-sex toilets should only be used by people of the same biological gender breached the rights of transgender people. The guidance was temporarily withdrawn after the claims, and the Met Police have since calculated the costs to fit new toilets. 'The overall cost of providing new toilets and changing spaces for transgender people at stations and main police buildings is conservatively estimated to be £5million,' one source told The Sun of the Met's financial assessment. 'There would also be a £300,000-a-year bill for maintenance.' It comes as Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley said his already overstretched force has faced 'eye-watering cuts' with the force plugging a £260million funding gap. Retired Met chief superintendent Simon Ovens said: 'Most of the Met estate is old and not easily converted. At a time of withering financial cuts, spending £5million on such things is frankly ridiculous.'

Moser tells Rolling Stone that to even claim LLMs "hallucinate" fictional publications misunderstands the threat they pose to our comprehension of the world, because the term "implies that it's different from the normal, correct perception of reality" But the chatbots are "always hallucinating," he says. "It's not a malfunction. A predictive model predicts some text, and maybe it's accurate, maybe it isn't, but the process is the same either way. To put it another way: LLMs are structurally indifferent to truth."

We are aware that some AI chatbots (such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, Bard and others) may generate incorrect or fabricated archival references. These systems do not conduct research, verify sources, or cross-check information. They generate new content based on statistical patterns, and may therefore produce invented catalogue numbers, descriptions of documents, or even references to platforms that have never existed. A specific risk is that generative AI tools always produce an answer, even when the historical sources are incomplete or silent. Because their purpose is to generate content, they cannot indicate that no information exists; instead, they will invent details that appear plausible but have no basis in the archival record If you received an archival reference or document description from an Al chatbot, please keep in mind that it may be inaccurate
