abolish ICE now and forever
ICE detain father shopping on Christmas Eve—then steal his family's groceries.

Then 3 agents divvy up his paid for food—taking what they want for themselves.

"Can I just get the wife's number to call and let her know?" woman asks.

"No, guess he should've complied," agent says.

Spoilers for #Pluribus, but same, this scene was chilling and sad. The end of an entire culture, in a matter of moments, by the hive mind, after using that culture's languages and songs to manipulate a young girl to join it.

Ok, so now that I’ve watched the season finale of Pluribus, I must observe that the themes of assimilation into whiteness and the wealth class are overwhelming.

I really want a truly left critic to write a piece on this show. No spoilers, but Manousos with that one alien zombie— WHEW.

#pluribus
I am still thinking about the choice to put Manousos into the Darien Gap on his quest to save humankind, about the creative decision to have him set fire to all he cares about as he sets out, about the alien zombies saving him when at death’s door instead of leaving him to die as unworthy, about

It is EXHAUSTING not only being made responsible for coming up with new kinds of assignments for our students; it's also tedious reading op-eds that suggest the core problem is a crisis in teaching. But, as Chris and I lay out here, this isn't a crisis in teaching; it's an attack on learning.

Wow! The end state is that these corporations don't want you to actually go the grocery store. They want you to shop for groceries online - because in the actual store it is harder to change the price for individuals. You see this in reduction of check out lanes, etc. www.youtube.com/watch?v=osxr...

To all my progressive friends: if you are not acknowledging the ongoing pandemic, if you are not making choices to help mitigate it, then you are not, in fact, fighting the good fight quite as much as you might think you are.
“ every rollback of protections, every mask ban, & every act of pandemic denial is a choice made in the service of the perpetuation of the very same systems of control & subjection that are responsible for the ongoing violence & abandonment of the pandemic” @reallandsend.bsky.social. Thank you

“The state wants us to believe that nothing can change, that Covid is both gone and here to stay, and that the deaths of over 7 million people worldwide are simply meaningless, “pulled from the future.” But this is a lie. These deaths are politically determined.”
Funny what happens when an entire society decides that social murder is super OK actually, & that "you do you" is a fine approach to public health. Almost like it gives eugenicists a leg up & another to stand on, or something.

The UNC system just released its final policy on mandatory syllabi disclosure, stating that syllabi are university (not faculty) IP and certain course info must be posted on new, publicly searchable databases before every semester.

A thread about what's changed from the draft I reported on earlier:
NEW: Public universities in red states, from Texas to Florida, are increasingly required to make their syllabi public. The University of North Carolina may be next. Does "syllabi transparency" help combat distrust in higher ed, or feed ill-informed suspicions of it? www.chronicle.com/article/when...
When Everyone Can See Your Syllabus
More states are requiring public colleges to make class syllabi available to the masses. Proponents say these measures boost higher ed’s credibility, while faculty fear being targeted.
