ICYMI, new story this week! Last of the year (probably). Features a hot shot pilot, a retired but persistent ambulance, and snacks.

Out today, in the autumn issue of @kaleidotrope.bsky.social, my story of a space pilot dealing with her first clone resurrection, with a little help from the rescue ship's AI and several kinds of cheese.

Back from my family trip to tell you that I have a new story in @kaleidotrope.bsky.social ! "What a Big Heart You Have" is my tender tribute to Grandma and Aunt Ellen, though the characters aren't literally them. kaleidotrope.net/autumn-2025/...

Most people using AI to create art are running a con. The rest are being conned into thinking they’re creating art.

For what it’s worth, in case it isn’t obvious, this is a joke, not an actual submission I was sent. Most people trafficking in AI “assisted” stories aren’t fessing up to that fact, oddly enough. 😀

“Dear editor,
I asked an algorithm designed to mimic patterns it had learned through the plagiarism of billionaires if it could spit out something that looked convincingly like the stories it had stolen, and it burned through an ocean to deliver whatever this is. Thank you for your consideration.”

I think of Chelsea Market when I picture this poem...but it's an ode to a Canadian skill I'm learning: when to refuse an individual desire for the sake of others kaleidotrope.net/autumn-2025/...
