One of the conspirators who helped Gavrilo Princip shoot Archduke Franz Ferdinand survived to see the breakup of Yugoslavia. He could conceivably have watched the Neighbours episode where Scott and Charlene got married

you ever think about those real weird overlaps. like tennessee williams might have listened to the ramones

This is a good point and I definitely think it's a key element in why there is such a constant stream of 'new thing that will save education' that never ends. There's money and status associated with the cycle.

The Government justified a clamp down on freedom of information requests by claiming an increase in malicious and automated FOI attempts. Only problem is, there's no evidence of such a thing.

Our research showed that the number of FOI requests has not increased, but processing time has. 🔗⤵️ #auspol

google wants to introduce errors into my spreadsheets and attribute them to me
screenshot of a popup on Google Sheets with two buttons "Learn more" and "Got it"

header reads "Gemini can now do more for you in Sheets" with "for" scribbled out in red, and the word AS above it, so it says "Gemini can now do more AS you in Sheets"

below that:
Gemini can now make requested changes and insert content directly into your files.

HIGHLIGHTED TEXT: All inserted content will be attributed to you in version history.

For inline features like =Al), Gemini will insert content directly. For the side panel, Gemini will provide a preview first unless it understands your goal is a direct edit, such as making a pivot table or adding conditional formatting.
Gemini in Workspace can make mistakes, including about people, so double-check responses.

I see pieces like this a lot, often w/ a spin of lamenting cultural degeneration, but reading is a LABOR issue, it’s declined because so many people are working overtime or two jobs & employers expect after hours work. France has Earth’s highest reading rate b/c long lunch breaks & labor protections

It is *lovely*. Very void like. I never really liked black pens until I started using fountain pens and now black inks call to me in a totally new way. Gorgeous.

last week, I wrote about how the rushed/bizarre teen social media ban policy process could lead to bad outcomes for Australians.

One scenario? Platforms forced to check users ages leak private data. Anyway, there's now a leak of some Discord user's passports

It's beautiful! I hope you'll share some fancy ink shots when you use it

I just finished The Society of Unknowable Objects by @garethjohnbrown.bsky.social and it was an absolutely cracking read. I loved The Book of Doors and enjoyed this one just as much. I hope there will be another one coming! #BookSky 💙📚

The complementary tactic to requiring someone to be “grateful” is “see what you made me do?” They often are used together.

Journalism that fails to infuse a historically informed lens is akin to covering the smoke but never asking who lit the fire. History-centered journalism should be the framework within every newsroom.

I don't know where this revisionism has come from about the suffragettes - people saying "if the suffragettes were around today, they'd be considered terrorists."

The suffragettes were arrested and tortured, sexually assaulted and beaten by the state. They *were* considered terrorists!

I’m sorry, which is it: are boys in an acute crisis that demands that all the nation’s resources and attention be leveraged toward their improved happiness and status? Or is their natural superiority only obscured by affirmative action for women? You have got to pick one because you can’t have both.
kelittlejohn.bsky.social
Ooof I just read it and you are not wrong!

This can't be real though. I refuse to believe it - "But Noah is the most hardboiled of them all: “A good story is like a good Sunday roast: you smell it first … ” he tells us. “You smell it first and then you feel it in your problematic balls.”

I'm almost scared to read it haha. I read Dalton's first book and it was fine/forgettable so I never really understood the hype, and none of his subsequent offerings drew me in enough in the blurb to go any further. This review, on the other hand, is screaming to be read.

Social media has spoiled us because occasionally you were able to get a celebrity to engage with you or perhaps cause the world's richest man to throw a tantrum. Now people think they can have a theological debate with the Pope.

really enjoying all the people trying to explain the bible to the pope today
Pope Leo XIV
Today, more than ever, we must return to the heart, the center of feeling and emotion, the locus of freedom. Though it includes reason, the heart transcends and transforms it. Only by returning to the heart can we undergo a true ecological conversion that transforms our personal

I reject this whole heartedly. What you fail to see Mr Pope, the Bible says
