It is frustrating and, frankly, frightening that the defense of basic rights, the constitutional order, and democratic self-government against the authoritarian onslaught depends so much on a party that so consistently fails and/or proves unwilling to meet the moment.

I forget the actual wording but there was a great tweet about how the Democrats are like a band that just spends all of every show telling the crowd to calm down.
Dear media:

Please do not waste time hyperventilating about this dumb comment.

It’s intended to be a distraction from all of the damaging actions he’s taking.

Focus on those.

Dear Democratic Party: why are you not screaming this from every rooftop? Why are you not holding press conferences with these poor fired people - putting a face on what the richest man is destroying?
“The thing that I can’t get over is that the actual richest man in the world directed my fucking firing. I make $50k a year and work to keep drinking water safe. The richest man in the world decided that was an expense too great for the American taxpayer.”
Yesterday many thousands of federal employees were terminated. This is a Reddit thread for federal employees that got laid off.

in what meaningful way can we say that the constitution is in effect when an unelected and unaccountable billionaire is wielding state power to unilaterally cancel congressional appropriations?
Hearing that DOGE went into the Dept of Education today and shut down almost the entirety of the department's in-house research arm, Institute of Educational Sciences, cancelling contracts totally about $900m.

Costco closing for even 12-hours because of this would break people’s brains. Just say “we made X billion last year and now we’re being told by the government how to run our business. We are sadly closed until these efforts stop.” I assume the 19 states would fracture very quickly.
"Attorneys General from 19 states have put Costco on notice due to alleged 'discrimination,' stating its diversity policies are discriminatory against people who are not minorities."

19 GOP AGs demanded Costco repeal its DEI practices, gave them 30 days to respond.

DOGE personnel have completely shut down a congressionally mandated federal agency, they're pilfering through the U.S. Treasury as I type and House Democratic leadership is at an event telling the audience how much they love Israel.

These are not our leaders. Look to state and local officials.
Meanwhile…

House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries and Democratic reps Jerry Nadler, George Latimer, and Laura Gillen are at a Jewish Community Relations Council event talking about bipartisan support for Israel.

I know I'm a broken record, but, again: a key problem of the Harris campaign was way too much focus on winning over conservatives.

If conservatives decide to vote D, that's nice, but they'll never be won over. The best strategy is to ignore them.

Can't stress this enough: Democrats need to eject the Scarboroughs and Cheneys from the movement, embrace the AOCs, Warrens and Crocketts, then decide what they stand for, dig a foxhole and defend it to the end.
"That wasn't the sound of fear. That was the sound of civility" -- Joe Scarborough makes an impassioned defense of the decision he and Mika made to defend Fox News from David Frum as well as their meeting with Trump at Mar-a-Lago

This has been the Democratic party's primary strategy my whole life: lean center and lose, Republicans trash the place so badly voters have no choice, Democrats take power again, pass modest reforms while praising bipartisanship, lean center and lose again, Republicans trash the place so badly...
Democrats are busy concluding that this worked for Labour rather than considering that what worked for Labour was being so incompetent that they gave the Tories 13 years to run the country into the ground until people finally had enough.
The process of mainstreaming far-right politics is a multi-faceted (but fairly obvious) one

Starmer & his supporters claim reclaiming far right issues is what won them the election as it addressed "the people's legitimate grievances"

Yet this has been tried many times and...

It’s time for you to make a decision about what you’ll do and what you won’t accept. And the time of choosing is now.
