Threatening to vote third party again, in the Year of Our Lord 2025, is a signal that you've already given up.

You're basically stating that you looked into Nietzsche's abyss and blinked.

Miss me with that bullshit.

And this is the pickle-brained, pro-Trump Stu Varney:

Fox: Roasted coffee prices are up 22% in the past year. There's a 50% tariff on coffee from Brazil. That's the nation's biggest coffee supplier. Take a look at this bag right here. The container that bag came in is costing this coffee shop $68,000 more than it did over the summer

I think there are still shared norms we can appeal to when we talk to the marginal MAGA voter. But there really are no shared norms left with the core of the movement.

This really is the central problem of the west currently that economically marginal voters want one type of economy, but culturally they absolutely do want it.
convolutedname.bsky.social
These jobs are not coming back and Clinton got pilloried in 2016 from the left and right for admitting that, but this wider inability to admit it is a lot what drives to populist turn in the West.

Add it to the tally.

Seems like we’re getting up to 20+ grand jury no true bills just from what I’ve seen. Absolutely remarkable.

Lemme be succinct for a minute then I'll log off because this is pointless:

The pro-natalist thing is pretty firmly rooted in racism and xenophobia. Anti-immigration sentiment.

You are doing a service to it if you try to remove that component and debate its merits in isolation.
kerravon.bsky.social
That's what the primary is for. The general is a different can of worms.
kerravon.bsky.social
It's not the "saying so" that's the sticking point, as I have repeatedly said.

I don't care what you say about Newsom. I share your opinion of him.

But if you don't vote (specifically VOTE) for Democrats, then you effectively are no longer part of the base.

Does that make sense?
kerravon.bsky.social
Anybody who doesn't consistently vote for Democrats isn't a Democrat. Ceasing participation in the party, or ceding influence to a transphobe like Newsom after losing a primary, means you are giving up being a Democrat.
kerravon.bsky.social
No and no.

I just don't know if it's a good analogy.

We literally just had a Presidency fail because of expensive consumer goods and the current President is also unpopular due to expensive consumer goods but trust the Ivy Leaguer turned cable TV news host that Globalization Is Bad For You Because Neoliberalism.
chrislhayes.bsky.social
Basically this was the entire logic fo neoliberalism and globalization - yes lots of job destruction, but prices falling on all kinds of goods and new jobs in new areas. It was taken as gospel that all of it was a net benefit, but that's a bit harder argument to make these days.

it is easier to make this argument now that we see what happens when free trade is undone, but you do you

Mike Johnson furiously backpedaling on the back pay thing is a pretty good indication that nobody in the GOP has the slightest clue how to deal with the shutdown.
jennifershutt.bsky.social
Speaker Johnson appears to say furloughed federal workers should get back pay under 2019 law

"It has always been the case. It is tradition and I think it is statutory law that federal employees be paid. And that’s my position."

I would anticipate the Black voters to fight the Klan influence first, and save the vote abstention threats for later.
kerravon.bsky.social
Well, duh, because there is literally no constituency for anything Klan-related in the Democratic Party and there hasn't been since the '60s.

I also think things would have had to deteriorate for quite a bit for the party to get to such a state.

Every time a Muslim runs for office, certain voices question their loyalties or suggest hidden agendas , the same old dog whistles pop up like “religious connection.”

These aren’t real concerns, just coded attempts to stoke suspicion and distract from real issues.
samshirazi.bsky.social
It’s expected Republicans will try to tie Democrats to Mamdani

John Reid takes it a step further and talks about Ghazala Hashmi’s “religious connection” with him

Also raises questions about Hashmi being both far left socialist and Islamist who wants to impose Sharia law 🤔

POTENTIAL HOT TAKE: The whole second Trump administration is a bunch of idiots who've been hoarding gold making sure their investment pans out.
joshtpm.bsky.social
I’ve been worried a lot that this is right. Gold is skyrocketing in value because the world is losing faith in the role of US as guarantor/backstop of global economy open.substack.com/pub/paulkrug...

Setting aside the absurdly xenophobic framing, once again, there is ZERO truth to any of this. Everyone qualifies for Emergency Medicaid equally. Hospitals do not receive more for treating undocumented immigrants in an emergency than Americans. Speaker Johnson is flatly wrong.
atrupar.com
Mike Johnson: "If you're a young, pregnant American citizen women who shows up in an ER and you get treated and they pay the hospital less for treating you than some illegal rabble rouser who came in from some South American country to do us harm, that is wrong."
