The elimination of the filibuster at the start of the Trump administration would be the most disastrous thing to happen for trans people federally.
The policies it would usher in would make what we've seen the first 11 months feel like a cakewalk.
The policies it would usher in would make what we've seen the first 11 months feel like a cakewalk.
If they eliminate the filibuster, it means national bans on gender affirming care, bathroom bans, a sports ban, gender marker bans, elimination of legal recognition etc. It will make life unlivable for trans people in the US, even in blue states. It's a worst case scenario.
Trump: “…BECAUSE OF THE FACT THAT THE DEMOCRATS HAVE GONE STONE COLD “CRAZY,” THE CHOICE IS CLEAR — INITIATE THE “NUCLEAR OPTION,” GET RID OF THE FILIBUSTER AND, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!

Got some light weekend reading for y’all.
My Meta Ray-Ban Display review. It’s got impressive tech in it but it’s very much a first-gen device.
But there are much larger cultural questions: Do we want this future and if so, how do we build it ethically?

This very first-gen device raises several questions about where the next chapter of mobile computing is headed.

Here I am, at The Verge, on how Internet censorship stands to cut closeted trans people off from their only safe spaces.
For many trans people, internet anonymity is only a temporary way station between the closet and living full time in their desired gender. What happens when that privacy is gone?
