I spent the whole afternoon working at a Pride event & this is the only picture I took: our reading recommendations board! Lots of people of all ages stopped to recommend a book, including some faves by @clpolk.com @marthawells.com @amalelmohtar.com & of course, Dag Man.
A sign with "recommend a read" on pink paper & about 100 multicoloured post-it notes with reading recommendations stuck to it

The Coast Guard tried to *push* his boat into US waters, to create an after-the-fact rationale to arrest him.
They failed, but arrested him anyway, for the crime of talking back to them.

Holy - and I cannot emphasize this enough - shit.

Also, this guy was a senior project 2025 organizer.
The answer came back days later in an email from Spencer Chretien, the highest-ranking official in the State Department's refugee and migration bureau, saying the program is intended for white people.

The ADA was signed into law 35 years ago today, and remains the most comprehensive civil rights law protecting people with disabilities.

This anniversary comes at a time when the health and dignity of disabled people are under attack by the Trump administration.

In March 1990, they illustrated the lack of accessibility by staging the Capitol Crawl, in which people with disabilities pulled themselves up the 100 steps of the Capitol building. A few months later the House passed the ADA by unanimous voice vote and the Senate 76-6. /end

Today in history, 1990: President George H.W. Bush signs the Americans with Disabilities Act, providing broad civil rights protections for disabled people. It was a victory for the disability rights movement, which began in the 1960s with demands for equal treatment and access. /1

Also, to clarify: I don’t think you necessarily need degrees to do the scientific method or the historical method properly— self-taught “amateurs” can do amazing scholarship. But a great way to learn cutting-edge methodology is working with experts, something college lets you do.
