There are now TWELVE (possibly 13...) peer-reviewed critiques of the Cass Review.

I have listed them all on my blog, now updated with links to all of them. Trying to keep it as up-to-date as possible.

For a fuller list, @notrightruth.bsky.social has them all here; ruthpearce.net/2024/04/16/w...

I’m very proud to have a chapter (on queer and trans Jewish theologies) in this volume, which looks stacked with excellent contributions.

Excited to see the Palgrave Handbook of Queer and Trans Studies in Religion come out today! I've got a co-authored chapter in it on trans ritual and so many of the other chapters look amazing! link.springer.com/book/10.1007...

Your task is a big one. Maybe even sometimes a dangerous one. It's a difficult one. But it's a meaningful one. The tragedy is that meaning requires purpose and your purpose originates in difficulties to be overcome. But it's something that can be and needs to be done. You have to do it anyway.

I love when I'm talking to people about the act of Paul and Thecla and I get to ask them if they've read the AO3 fanfic about Paul being a gender studies professor and when they inevitably say "What are you talking about?" I get to drop this gem on them.

Front and back covers for "They were bunkmates: A Marinler Fanzine 2.0"
Left: Front cover by Salty Duane: An illustration in which the characters are posed like the 1948 Bernard D'Andrea commercial painting "The Mating Call". Mariner and Boimler stand in front of their bunks in the lower decks sleeping quarters. Mariner in holding a TOS communicator, which is a reference to the original illustration where the woman is holding a phone. Boimler has his arms around her and they are looking at each other an smiling. In the background, Tendi and Rutherford's heads can be seen peaking out around a corner from the hallway. They are watching Mariner and Boimler.

Right: Back cover bt Foodcu-be: A vintage-stylized parody illustration of 1962 comic cover for “The Twist” by Dell. It features Beckett and Bradward together on a dancefloor filled with the silhouettes of other dancers. Brad has his eyes closed while smiling and Beckett is looking at the viewer. There’s a blue banner in the corner with a white delta on it. At the top of the illustration it reads, “They Were Bunkmates” with sparkles all around the piece.

to my mind the woman who dies of sepsis because of antiabortion laws, or the person who dies because they can't afford insulin -- these are just as much victims of political violence as the man shot through the throat while making a racist speech

I'm going to echo Damien here and also say stop acting like "generative AI" provides you with anything resembling expert advice or guidance.

It doesn't. It can't. It can't because expert guidance requires understanding the context in which you are asking the question.

Stop this. Just… Stop it. Stop using "generative AI" for anything that might actually matter, and especially things that, if it gets them wrong, *Might Fucking Kill You.*

Why does this need to be said? Why is this not obvious??? Why is this not the default way of fucking operating?! What the FUCK.

Trans people make up 1-3% of American society depending on definitions (nonbinary, trans, etc).

That is enough to swing multiple close swing state elections.

Democrats should not nominate an anti-trans Democrat.

If there's one thing that getting yelled at all day for saying that I will not vote for Gavin Newsom in a hypothetical 2028 election has made me more sure of... it's that I will not be voting for Gavin Newsom (or any other politician who pushes anti-trans nonsense) in 2028 or any other year.

This news coming out at the exact moment when a deluge of ravenous liberals are telling us to sacrifice trans children (which really means all trans people, ofc) proves not only how evil their intentions are, but the very crux of why we will never back down from defending them.

Today the Episcopal Church commemorates the life of the Rev. Dr. Pauli Murray, a remarkable scholar, activist, and priest who likely was also trans. We give thanks for Dr. Murray’s life, work and witness in the civil rights and feminist movements both within and beyond the borders of the church. ⚓️

Continuing Juneteenth & Pride: today is Pauli Murray’s feast day in the Episcopal Church! ⚓️

“When my brothers try to draw a circle to exclude me, I shall draw a larger circle to include them. Where they speak out for the privileges of a puny group, I shall shout for the rights of all humankind.”
The Rev. Dr. Pauli Murray, scholar, activist, priest, sits smiling at their desk surrounded by a library of books, holding a pencil and absorbed in writing. They wear a clerical collar and a bright blue jacket.

Pauli was a longtime and tireless civil rights scholar who kept up yearslong correspondence with Eleanor Roosevelt; whose legal theories on sex discrimination deeply influenced Ruth Bader Ginsburg; who was a founder of NOW; and who later in life became the first Black person understood to be a woman to be ordained to the priesthood in the Episcopal Church. Pauli had a woman partner and was also very likely transgender, although they lived ahead of times when the reality of being gay and transgender could be lived out publicly.

July 1 is the feast day of Pauli Murray in the Episcopal Church’s calendar of saints, Lesser Feasts and Fasts — continuing a celebration of what some folks call Liberation Month in June as we have been celebrating Juneteenth and Pride.

Justice Sotomayor's dissent in Skrmetti (which she's now reading from the bench) is deeply pained, accusing her colleagues of abandoning "transgender children and their families to political whims" and badly damaging "bedrock" principles of equal protection. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24p...
Tennessee’s law expressly classifies on the basis of sex
and transgender status, so the Constitution and settled
precedent require the Court to subject it to intermediate
scrutiny. The majority contorts logic and precedent to say
otherwise, inexplicably declaring it must uphold Tennessee’s categorical ban on lifesaving medical treatment so
long as “‘any reasonably conceivable state of facts’” might
justify it. Ante, at 21. Thus, the majority subjects a law
that plainly discriminates on the basis of sex to mere rational-basis review. By retreating from meaningful judicial
review exactly where it matters most, the Court abandons
transgender children and their families to political whims.
In sadness, I dissent.
