There's a delicious irony in WNBA sources complaining about Unrivaled's role in CBA negotiations when the league exists in no small part because of the prioritization rules the WNBA insisted on during the current CBA. Be careful what you wish for ...

Engelbert deserves the criticism she is getting. But Adam Silver and the NBA are the biggest obstacle in WNBA labor fights. My latest for @cbssports.bsky.social:

WNBA's Engelbert under fire — but the NBA's power looms larger
Engelbert faces blazing criticism from WNBA players, but the NBA's ownership and influence remain the central challenge to the league's future.

W.N.B.A. is doing immensely well! Time to pay the players!!

Thanks to Sara Chodosh for asking me to write this (helping with the writing) and making the cool graphics!!

Opinion | The W.N.B.A. Is Making More Money Than Ever. Why Aren’t the Players? (Gift Article)
Other professional sports leagues give their players roughly 50 percent of the revenue, but the W.N.B.A. players get less than 10 percent.

I wrote about Napheesa Collier's power play, Cathy Engelbert's puppet leadership, a changing ownership landscape and how the next commissioner should take a collaborative approach to the WNBA entering its player empowerment era:

The WNBA Is at a Breaking Point
Napheesa Collier went scorched earth on Cathy Engelbert for a reason. The players are fed up—and the firestorm is here.

A'ja Wilson's remarks after listening to Naphessa Collier's comments from her exit interview.

Says she was *disgusted* by what Cathy Englebert said, but that she is also grateful to have people like Phee representing the players.

the WNBA gave these players little support + low salaries and it created a set of self-sufficient superstars who don't fear the league at all and are ready to kick the league's asses in labor negotiations

the WNBA stars are well-equipped to take on management in a way other major athletes usually aren't. they've had to figure out how to do their own marketing, how to make money outside of the league, how to advocate for themselves etc. they've had to fight for so much that it comes naturally to them
Napheesa Collier's full statement at the beginning of her exit interview.

She directly quotes conversations with Cathy Englebert that legitimately call into question how the WNBA is being led. (Part 1/2) #WNBASky

BREAKING: Napheesa Collier's right ankle was NOT fractured at the end of game 3, but may have been fully broken off in Cathy Engelbert's ass.

(glad to hear Phee avoided major injury tho)
Re: her ankle injury — Napheesa Collier said "it's almost the exact same injury as my other ankle," "a couple torn ligaments," she said, but no broken bones.

She missed just over three weeks in mid-August with a right ankle injury.
