When NIMBYs say that California is full and their cities can’t accommodate more housing, they are saying that queer people trying to get out of red states are on their own.
New research confirms what many of us see: there's a large internal migration of LGBTQ people in the US, especially trans people, to friendlier states & cities.
Since 11/2024, 9% of all trans people have moved to another state, 43% have considered moving.

IT'S CARS

THE ANSWER IS, CARS
“Americans are increasingly hungry for Italian piazzas, Spanish plazas, French places, & similar squares around the globe. But the joy of experiencing life in these public squares leaves some travelers disappointed when they return to the States.”

Don’t let ANYONE tell you it HAS to be that way.
Americans are hungry for community. So why don’t we have more European-style squares? | CNN
As travel abroad has become common for more Americans, many have enjoyed Europe’s vibrant squares. Why doesn’t the United States have more of that kind of gathering spot and is change afoot?

By FPPC’s logic, every homeowner or renter – actually everyone in California – should be disqualified from voting on housing policy.

Just leaving this here: [email protected]
In Santa Monica, the FPPC has disqualified pro-housing Councilmember Jesse Zwick from all future housing votes. They said that because he works for a housing non-profit, he’s “conflicted” and must recuse.

Pretty absurd. The NIMBY deep state strikes again.

1) Gay intimacy on screen is NOT bad for business.

2) The Anti sex-scene discourse is horseshit. Audiences are horny and want horny things. 12 Year olds with anime pfp don't constitute a demographic worth catering to.

these deals are always terrible for product quality, consumers, art and labor, but this is always downplayed in coverage.

Heard a lot of the same at WeHo rezoning meetings where a significant number of homeowners voiced not wanting to “do anything differently until the subway is done” (which is estimated 2047-49)
The “we can’t possibly build more homes because our infrastructure isn’t perfect” argument is ubiquitous in San Francisco housing debates.

It’s effectively saying “sorry, no home for you until all infrastructure is perfect — go live 100 miles away.”

The argument is also factually baseless:

The City of Los Angeles has 43,700 homeless people. Seven of them die on the streets every day.

Mobilizing the planning department to slow-walk new mixed income housing near the train stations that taxpayers spent billions of dollars building reflects perverse priorities at best.

LA is hands-down the ugliest paradise on Earth. But its electeds fight to preserve our one-story decaying strip malls, SFHs and homeless encampments. Drive down any arterial road – Venice, La Brea, La Cienega, etc. – and it is the most aesthetically displeasing waste of incredibly valuable land.
