Oh my G-d a friend just reminded me of the time she was talking about her son, and asked "What would you say if I told you his favorite Disney character is Ursula?" and apparently (I have NO memory of this) I responded with "that he might have news for you someday." Anyway I was right though.

“Someone” cancelled my family’s flight out of the country at the last second.

We got our boarding passes. We checked our bags. Went through security. Then at our gate our reservation ‘disappeared.’

An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

I can’t believe I have to say this, but historically, masked men who kidnap families in the middle of the night are usually not the good guys.

Oh btw the other news I got this morning was about an attempt to ban a different book of mine in a North Carolina library, with the opposition using the same slurs you've come to expect when a book dares to have trans people in it. My career is basically "Fortunately" by Remy Charlip.

“It often feels like it's a dystopian world that we live in, and the only thing that is real is Gaza and what's happening there.”

Politics editor @leximcmenamin.com speaks with 23-year-old journalist Plestia Alaqad about her book, leaving Gaza and the impact all of it has on young people.
Journalist Plestia Alaqad Is Publishing Her Diaries From Gaza: "A Dystopian World"
"Every time I read it, I just feel disbelief — is this real? Did I really live that? Are there still thousands of people in Gaza living that?”

Greta Thunberg, deported to Greece, says the targeting of the Sumud Flotilla is "not the story" @teenvogue.com — instead, she says:

"Israel once again violated international humanitarian law by preventing aid from getting into Gaza while people are being starved.”
Greta Thunberg On Her Detention: I'm "Not The Story" — It's Israel Violating International Humanitarian Law
“I could talk for a very, very long time about our mistreatment and abuses in our imprisonment. Trust me. But that is not the story.”

I got to spend Yom Kippur with two of my favorite kids, who called me "Kyle Lukoff" all day because, as it turns out, they thought that was my full first name.

Spent the last decade reading conservative blogs use the word "Orwellian" more than they used the word "the" and now they're literally just saying "War is Peace" out loud in front of everybody.

Hegseth: "As history teaches us, the only people who actually deserve peace and those who are willing to wage war to defend it. That's why pacifism is so naive and dangerous."

I've been thinking about that Klein and Ta-Nehisi Coates convo. Specifically, how Klein kept saying that Coate's pragmatism in positioning his work in line with those who came before him fighting for rights they knew were unlikely to come to fruition in their lifetimes was depressing /1

I just called Chuck Schumer’s office and, for the first time EVER, a person answered, who then politely entered my complaints into their call log.

This tells me two things:

1) They’re not getting enough calls over there, and 2) If you want to yell at Schumer, today’s the day.
