Very apropos.
Discworld QOTD, from Snuff

"You should look for those who can’t believe that the law would ever catch them, who believe that they act out of a right that the rest of us do not have. The job of the officer of the law is to let them know that they are wrong!"
Discworld QOTD, from I Shall Wear Midnight

"Witches knew that mysterious omens were around all the time. The world was always nearly drowning in mysterious omens. You just had to pick the one that was convenient."

Ok. Now had a chance to check and, well, at least some docs do appear to be straight up classic redaction fail. And there are some *interesting* bits here.

Barbra Streisand says, “Here, happy to hold that beer for you.”
I’m curious what she thought was going to happen here. Did it not occur to her that swooping in at the last minute to kill a story on specious grounds might antagonize the journalists who worked on it? That such intervention was likely to blow up in a rather spectacular and embarrassing way?
the shitstorm that’s already brewing because of Bari’s decision to spike this story is going to end up being vastly more damaging to her and to the admin than allowing the story to air would have been

she’s an evil propagandist hack but she is also very bad at doing it in a way that isn’t hamfisted

It’s the “season of love and giving”…but this year, doesn’t it seem more like a “season of fear and taking”? Like many of you, I’ve been saddened by the human impact of draconian government budget cuts and how angry many housed Americans are at unhoused Americans.

This is, uh, not a smart move. Section 230 has its flaws, but repealing it without having an *extremely solid* plan in place to replace the protections for free speech it offers is tantamount to banning the LGBTQ+ community and others from public online spaces.
Sen. WHITEHOUSE: We finally are moving to file a bipartisan Section 230 repeal bill. Waiting any longer serves no useful purpose.

I think about this problem a lot. Makes me think one of the most valuable things people who are talking to Trump supporters can do is provide narratives that help change the story and reduce social embarrassment. Eg, "last straw"narratives that justify a change now.

I really can't emphasize enough that if you care about local politics, all you gotta do is show up. Just a regular schmegular person showing up. Literally just show up consistently in person and within a remarkably short amount of time, you will have a shocking amount of influence.

I've seen turtles hatching on Heron Island. One of the more amazing sites watching these teeny tiny turtles flopping to the water. Glad to hear this news!
Green sea turtles are making a comeback in the Pacific: nest counts on Australia’s Heron Island have risen, and populations across the Pacific now meet IUCN recovery thresholds, thanks to decades of protection, turtle-safe fishing, and community-led conservation.
