Thankyou to all the experts answering my Aus Elections batsignal (muddled question) yesterday!!
Is there a record for the lowest rank of preferences that have ever been required to find a winner in an Australian election?

Like say, have the 5th or 6th or 7th or 8th preferences ever decided a result? Paging @drdrehistorian.bsky.social

With Girlguides and the WI announcing that the new laws are forcing them to exclude trans girls and women, it seems like a good time for any cis women who haven't signed Not In Our Name yet to do so. Stand with our sisters.

Melbourne Metro Tunnel opened for passengers today … really impressed. Whole system was crowded full of people and yet you feel like it could have been 2-3x the number with absolute ease. They really futureproofed this thing 🏆

As silly as it sounds, Snow Crash taught me as much about reading like an adult as any class I took in my primary education. From my initial teenaged "books can DO that?!" surface level read to the satisfaction of understanding historical contexts, themes, and motifs in fiction in later years.
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

Well, that frankly looks like a battle cry, and one I would be happy to answer.
Looks like LLMs are *very* vulnerable to attack via poetic allusion: "curated poetic prompts yielded high attack-success rates (ASR), with some providers exceeding 90% ..."

On this Trans Day of Remembrance, we remember the bright and courageous trans people whose lives were stolen by hatred. Their absence is felt across our city.

We will honor them by building a New York where every trans person can live safely, fully and freely.
