This was an amazing effort by Killarney businesses. It was heartening to see the signs as you enter the town and the commitment from individual businesses. It's a huge missed opportunity that they weren't supported in doing the right thing

The whole idea of the latte levy was to incentivise customers to choose re-usable cups instead of disposable ones. How would it do that if they don't obviously, clearly see themselves paying it when they get a disposable cup, because it is just rolled into a price rise by cup producers or retailers?
samtranum.bsky.social
Is the latte levy dead? "The Department of Climate, Environment and Energy said a levy was still possible but rather than ask customers to pay it at the till, it would be imposed on cup producers or retailers who could then pass the cost on to customers." www.irishtimes.com/ireland/2025...

From a security and defence perspective, any such 'recovery' in 7+ generations' time is completely unfeasible. All scenario modelling points to 1) large uncertainties, but 2) a strong probability of global social, economic, political and military breakdown and chaos resulting in a total and .. 1/3

The best guess of climate experts at this Overshoot Conference is that - in an optimistic scenario - we return to 1.5C (where we are now) in 7 generations time.

That's about the same distance from now as the start of the Industrial Revolution.

The response from the Minister's representative at yesterday's meeting in Leinster House was shocking.

It's very clear that this government is not taking road safety seriously and people will die as a result.

www.fm104.ie/news/fm104-n...
Jason Cullen from the Dublin Commuter Coalition said a response from a staff member from the Junior Transport Minister, Sean Canney's office, during that presentation, was alarming.

"The clear indication that we got from the Minister's staff member there, was that it would be at least 18 months before we see any form of instruction to local county councils.

'When I pointed out to him that within that time 20 to 30 cyclists will probably have been killed on our roads due to the current trends that we're seeing, the response from him was that it is 'regrettable' that that will happen.

"It really took my breath away."

Unsurprising but a difficult read.
We’ve really mucked things up for the next generation, but most of them won’t even know what they are missing because of the shifting baseline.
