This is the thing I'll never understand. If I were as provably, publicly, chronically bad at my job as so many in the centrist pundit industrial complex are, I would simply pursue a different career.

What you see in many National Review and Free Press writers is this: President Trump’s behavior is so morally abhorrent that the only way to proceed is to pretend it all doesn’t count. There’s never any justification for this that makes a lick of sense. But it’s the only way to avoid opposing him.

just talked to some of my old eng coworkers who did this. we apparently created new accts and then renamed the old ones; eg, potus was renamed to potus45 and then potus was re-created from scratch for the new guy. we also migrated followers so they stayed with the old acct.

If I remember correctly, old Twitter, back when it had actual trust & safety people, had a process for archiving old administration accounts into a different account name before giving the incoming admin the name.
It's kind of funny that the NYCMayor Twitter account just changes names without archiving the old posts so now it's @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social's name on all of Eric Adams' old tweets
