New nationwide data links TCE exposure to higher Parkinson’s risk. Trichloroethylene or TCE is a widely used industrial solvent and environmental contaminant that can be found in air, soil and water. New paper: TCE associated w/ increased risk of Parkinson’s in older adults across USA.

Congrats @vulcnethologist.bsky.social on a great paper! This a cool technology that is the future of tracking motion within the body during behavior. @movementscience.bsky.social this might be what we need for tracking muscles and tendon during movement!

Sign the petition to restore eligibility of 2nd year grad students to the NSF GRFP. They are being robbed of the opportunities to advance their innovative science. @chubicki.bsky.social

We've already got hundreds of students and mentors here, sharing how the sudden policy change has derailed plans. We're looking at formally "delivering" results to NSF leadership tomorrow, please do keep sharing and spreading the word: laurenkuehne.github.io/grfpChanges/

My colleagues in BME started a podcast to explain the importance of biomedical engineering research and why we need to prioritize keeping these impactful innovations funded. Go Zach and Erin!

Why would I co-produce a science podcast?

I think everyone needs to understand, especially now, how valuable the methods of science are to our world. We hope to show the science skeptical and science curious why biomedical science is so amazing.

This is infuriating, we have several who have been working to build a portfolio to be competitive and who sat out last year because of prior NSF rules limiting them to one application in graduate school.

This will send shock waves through academia. It’s not just about the students but also the labs trying to keep research programs going. A personnel gap could set things back significantly.

Worse, NSF plays a big role too

This is going to affect a lot of people in the field, from professors to postdoc and students.

This will start to filter through the community today but the Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation Science Study section has been postponed to an unknown future date. The approvals at the highest levels that needed to happen for a federal review meeting to be held didn’t get done. 1/n
