Unsolicited writing advice, no. 2466: Writing takes resilience. You will sometimes be afraid. You will sometimes be rejected, criticized, disappointed. Don’t try to avoid those things. Feel them. Learn from them. Use them. Tell yourself that you have already done the hardest part. You have begun.

Young people SHOULD “have it easier” than you did. I’m sorry you got the strap up hill both ways and paid your debts with pounds of flesh, but the reason we work for progress is to make growing up and growing old gentler, easier, kinder, freer. Struggle isn’t necessary in a healthy society.

My March was more hectic than usual, so I only got through two books—Braiding Sweetgrass and What’s a Witch to Do. But they were both excellent reads, so I see this as a win 😊

I’ve been wearing masks in public since 2020. Thanks to masks, I haven’t had any trouble with COVID, long covid, or any other airborne diseases. Banning masks would make life harder for everyone, especially with public health threats like bird flu and measles on the horizon.
