So it's official. Trump is enthusiastically using the powers of the state to target his political enemies. There's a word for that. The MSM can either enable him by not using it, or can speak the truth. Which will it be?

Okay after the media freakout over Biden withdrawing from Afghanistan the wrong way- a courageous and popular project that the media conspired to use to destroy Biden’s presidency and elect Trump! - it would be an O Henry twist if Trump reinvaded Afghanistan for no discernible reason

ROVE: “.. Using Charlie’s murder to justify retaliation against political rivals is wrong and dangerous. It will further divide and embitter our country. No good thing will come of it.”

If I were editing a column about Charlie Kirk’s political genius, I would tell the writer he needed to quote Kirk’s actual political beliefs. If the writer responded that doing so would weaken or distract from his argument, it’d be a pretty good sign that the column was not ready for prime time.

Charlie Kirk spent his last days manufacturing a lurid panic about “Black-on-White crime” and his final post on X was a call to politicize a murder. He was not “practicing politics the right way.“ You can oppose what happened yesterday without pretending he was One of the Good Ones.

Whether it’s Republican politicians joking about the murder of Melissa Hortman or Democratic politicians expressing their condolences after the murder of Charlie Kirk, both parties have a extreme rhetoric problem.

You can condemn murder and political violence without whitewashing Charlie Kirk's shameful history of hate, racism, white nationalism and promotion of dangerous conspiracies that radicalized Trump supporters to violence.

You can do both.

They're wrong about the polls but this is how political news works. Rather than continually updating or refining their understanding of the facts, ideas are repeated by commentators until they become baseline truths that can't be rebutted, and then wielded like talismans in performative debate.

Possible to start to tell a unified story: "Trump is personally too old, crazy, and confused to run things, so at any given time the question is which co-president is in charge. At first it was Musk, & we got the crazy chaotic DOGE era. Then Navarro: a trade war that crashed markets. Now Miller..."

Trump could wander into the press briefing room in nothing but soiled underwear, mistake Karoline Leavitt for his ex-wife Marla Maples, and go on an extended rant about how he was sending SEAL Team 6 to execute George Clooney and half the media would still be asking about Biden's health.
