WINTER’S GLOW (2012)
Acrylic on Yupo Paper - 12” x 12”

I wasn’t feeling in the holiday spirit, and as usual it took a painting to get me into the mood of the season.

Don Maitz first recommended “Yupo paper” to me, and I was pleased with how the sheet he lent me handled acrylics. 1/13

I think this is a really important point. When folks say "no AI" they often don’t mean "I can conceive of no possible use for AI"—they mean "the use cases I’ve been shown do not begin to justify the harms"—that’s not something you respond to by offering another narrow use case
So when I say there is *zero* utility for LLMs, I don't mean there are zero use cases. I mean there are zero use cases that even begin to make up for the damage that's being done.

I’ve watched this 85 times solely to watch her take that one guy out at the knees
This is Millie. She just learned how to sled. Hopes you brought a second land frisbee, because she will not be taking turns. 13/10 (TT: millietheredlab)

Anyone I know using Finch, the self care app? I’m still figuring out ways to make it helpful (just recently found the exercises!) but even the nudge to drink something is helpful! I even have it remind me for the weekly trash day. D9EEBSW3J9 Is my code if interested

I know this is a bold stance in America, but I simply do not believe we should be declaring war on another country for “stealing our oil” when the oil is, in fact, under the ground of that other country

This is my friend's cat. Its name is Cookie Swirl, and it disappeared in the American section of Charlotte airport on 11/10. We're asking for your help. She doesn't have any other socials, so if you can post it widely to see if anyone knows where it is. It's a little thing, but matters a lot to her.

So. If you fight CSAM, you can't get an H1-B visa into the US. Nor can your family.

Why does the Trump Administration want to protect CSAM creators and users?
Holy shit.

Reuters reporting that new admin instructions on visas are if you worked at a platform in trust & safety or content moderation or on fact checking or online safety at an platform you *and your loved ones* are ineligible for H-1B visa.

A strong statement of what passes for American values, I guess.

Over 20 yrs, former Honduran Pres Juan Orlando Hernández brought over 500 TONS of cocaine to the U.S. He was sentenced to 45 years in prison.

Trump has pardoned & released him from prison.

If you are married to a US spouse, your temporary visa (usually for 3 months) will lapse before your case is processed. The government allowed you could stay in the US while awaiting case processing. Now the Trump admin is saying that is a visa overstay and arresting the spouses.

To put a finer point on this whole thing: "Two people with direct knowledge of the operation" — presumably uniformed military leaders — are accusing the U.S. Secretary of Defense of personally ordering specific war crimes. That's a historic accusation.

I'm an "A.i." abolitionist.

No consumer-facing LLMs or generative "A.i." in anything.

Sure, machine learning in science and a few other limited applications is fine.

But consumer-facing LLMs and generative "A.i." that are based on theft, push disinfo, and can be manipulated by billionaires?

No.
