Having Universal Basic Income would make it easier to walk away from terrible working conditions, abusive management, or, oh I don't know, refuse to follow illegal orders? Which is exactly why the people in charge don't WANT us to have UBI. A scared populace, a hungry populace, is easier to control.

These anti-vaxxers will kill babies.

It feels awful to be that blunt, but the stakes here are *babies dying of preventable diseases*.
To be very clear: Kennedy's team is messing with a vaccine which has led to a 99 percent drop in the incidence of hepatitis B, which kills, early and painfully, 25 percent of the children who get it.
RFK’s Anti-Vax Team Readies Its Next Moves
“Their game is, let’s really destabilize trust in the vaccine, and make people really anxious about it.”

Childism is one of the most socially acceptable forms of dehumanisation.
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?

@handsoffnyc.bsky.social is training thousands of New Yorkers on how to protect their neighbors from ICE. Today, they are currently running two trainings in Brooklyn and the Bronx, both of which hit capacity because interest was so high.

This is the way, y’all—we protect each other, and we know it.

If you've ever been to a naturalization ceremony, you know they're filled with people whose palpable love of this country is twenty times stronger than the pinched "patriotism" of any native-born MAGA chud.

Just unspeakable assholery.

I'm also tired of people using needle shots on stories like this.

Whatever you think about the downsides of the modern world, you can't deny that the bit where pretty much all the babies get to live is fucking awesome.
Currently dorking out over this graph about child mortality with my brother. Just mind boggling to take in.

• COVID-19 vaccines aren’t killing kids.
• COVID-19 *is* the leading infectious cause of death in children.

The CDC & FDA have been taken over by wellness grifters.

No dogpiling but this is reflective of a much broader issue: Nobody needs to be perfectly correct for their mistreatment to be mistreatment.
"He's no angel" isn't an excuse for police brutality. "They're drug dealers" doesn't mean you can blow them up on a boat even if true". "He's a gang member"...

we are well past the point at which anyone who cannot identify bad faith like this is disqualified from commenting on it

the girl and her mother are basically screaming THIS IS A BAD FAITH ATTACK ON TRANS PEOPLE at the top of their lungs and if you can't see that you're stupid or lying
a lot of people debating the merits of that dogshit essay meanwhile the girl’s mom is retweeting demands to ban all trans people from teaching at any level. it’s forest for the trees shit

A college student complaining about a grade on a paper is not national news. Not even close. The details have minimal import outside the class itself.

Well-funded political activists targeting profs and TAs—in this case because they're trans—with the help of elected state officials? National issue.

The crisis isn’t refugees. It’s not that one person committed one tragic crime and killed one other person. The crisis isn’t that America’s 250-year old history of hosting immigrants turned out to be a mistake.

The crisis is that STEPHEN MILLER, a hateful little maggot, controls the government.

I read this and assumed it was mostly sarcasm/satire. It is, right? Like, we do live in a society where we have to agree on the rules, but obvs, it's not lame if a judge found someone not guilty (and we should have juries)
Dude grandma made her choice - just like every suffragette and apartheid protestor. Judges won't save her, but it'd be lame civil disobedience if they did! Society isn't a superhero story - we all have to agree on the rules or we don't live in one. It's not about influence, it's about cooperation.

It used to be the case that a mission of forming young people for leadership was understood to be exclusively aimed at boys. That's no longer true. Hegseth wants to get back something that can't be restored—the culture-wide assumption that power and influence should belong only to (white) men.

(4/4) Human rights are universal. They are not tools for political convenience. They do not bend to ideology. And no administration can claim that equality, safety, and dignity are anything but fundamental rights. The world is watching. And history will remember where we stood.
