more cops saying stuff like this please
Brooklyn Park police chief Mark Bruley: "We're hearing people being stopped with no cause & being demanded to show paperwork to determine if they're here legally. We started hearing from our police officers the same complaints. Every one of these individuals is a person of color... it has to stop"

This is the most astonishing graph of what the Trump regime has done to US science. They have destroyed the federal science workforce across the board. The negative impacts on Americans will be felt for generations, and the US might never be the same again.

It’s not you today….but it may be you tomorrow

Stand up before it’s too late
Moriarty: "A police officer of color who was off duty was boxed in by ICE - she's a citizen - they demanded to know who she was & see her papers. She was going to try to record it & they ripped the phone out of her hand. That happened to a cop. That's what's happening here on the streets of MN."

Trump has been in office for one year. We at @nature.com did a deep dive looking at the administration's disruption of science in numbers.

Take a look—the numbers are staggering. By me, @dangaristo.bsky.social, Jeff Tollefson, @kimay.bsky.social, & help from @noamross.net @scott-delaney.bsky.social

REMINDER: He likely wasn't actually worth a billion dollars before becoming president. He used the office to enrich himself greater than any president in history.
Here's a plain-spoken and accessible editorial - based in part on @reuters.com reporting - that outlines how much Donald Trump has enriched himself since taking power, and why that's so dangerous for democracy.

Opinion | How Trump Has Used the Presidency to Make at Least $1.4 Billion
The president took an oath to serve the American people. Instead, he’s focused his second term on enriching himself and his family.

This is a 57-year-old Hmong American citizen.

This morning ICE broke open his doorand arrested him for no reason. They wouldn't allow him to even put clothes on, in spite of it being below zero outside.

He was later released without charges.

Probably worth reminding folks that Hmong communities were given asylum and granted citizenship by law for helping US forces in Vietnam and Laos

Its beyond disgusting to target these people now and question their right to be in this country.
ICE is allegedly hunting for Hmong people in Minneapolis and as I watched video of the incident lo and behold @whstancil.bsky.social was on the scene

A black box that “overrides a birth certificate,” brought to you by the “Hugo Chavez hacked the voting machines!” people.
New from 404 Media: ICE's facial recognition app, which the agency is using to decide who to detain and deport, misidentified a woman. Twice.

ICE says results of the app are definitive and override a birth certificate; obviously this case shows the app is inaccurate

The letter goes on to demand “complete and total control of Greenland.”

Opening fraudulent investigations into Governor Walz & Mayor Frey is a textbook example of prosecutorial misconduct. Judges must start imposing sanctions and holding lawyers accountable.

To every federal official participating in these shams: one day you will be held accountable.
Instead of investigating the death of Renee Good, Trump wants to investigate Governor Walz & Mayor Frey. Despicable.

This is a clear weaponization of justice against Trump's political rivals & a desperate attempt to distract from ICE's growing brutality & Trump's lawlessness.

It’s time for the Supreme Court to finally issue a ruling on tariffs. The Court has already recognized that tariffs function as a tax on the American people. A president cannot unilaterally impose new taxes on American citizens that power belongs to Congress alone.

Gosh, it would be nice if SCOTUS would finally release the opinion in the tariff case....
Trump says he'll impose a 10% tariff (rising to 25% in June) on Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands and Finland, because they've sent people to Greenland, until the US can buy Greenland.
January 17, 2026 at 5:38 PM
Not that this whackjob ever knows what he's doing, but its wild for Trump to say Greenland is needed to protect Europe from Russia and China, when Russia is CURRENTLY invading sovereign countries and encroaching on the EU and Trump is doing next to nothing to oppose Russia
Only the Supreme Court or Republicans in Congress can stop this insanity right now. Which pretty much means we’re fucked.

Let’s call this what it is: a disgusting abuse of power and a farce.

As his agents terrorize Minnesotans, as prices rise, as he fails to deliver for Americans, he is also weaponizing the DOJ against his perceived enemies.

This is not a banana republic and justice will prevail.

I don’t think people quite understand that the occupation by ICE in the Twin Cities has more or less erased non-white people from public life. They cannot safely exist in any space accessible to the public and moving between private places leaves folks vulnerable to kidnapping by armed masked goons.

The one thing authoritarian leaders usually have going for them is the general apathy of the majority when they make a move solely against a marginal group in society.

But when they occupy an entire city with clumsy, brutal force, that just forces everyone out of that apathy.

We've lived in Minneapolis for almost 14 years, and I don't think people realize how close the communities are - *especially* people in the state who live in rural or exurban places. You fuck with our neighbors and we get big mad
On the ground here in Minnesota, it’s hard to reconcile the immense bonds of community that have been built in a week with the fact that we live in a country whose government appropriated billions of dollars to an unaccountable paramilitary force whose sole purpose is ethnic cleansing.
