will also add - yes, this is my personal crusade - that turning podcasts into videos implicitly asks women to once again make more effort than men, as the bar for "camera-ready" for one gender is obviously higher than for the other

I think it’s also true that loneliness among women has historically been treated as an individual problem, while loneliness among men is treated as a societal problem. That, in turn, comes from an assumption that women are supposed to earn the company of others while men are entitled to it.
men’s loneliness gets “more airtime”?

baby I have lived the past three decades of my life witnessing corporate media elevate men’s loneliness into a full-blown balls-to-the-wall CRISIS once every 4-5 years

“more airtime” is hilarious

Science can create more accurate and effective tools, but if it costs too much to make them, you'll either have to settle for less effective ones, sacrifice other things you care about, or find ways to raise more money than you currently have.

Every 8 minutes. That's how often a US Uber passenger reports a driver for sexual assault or misconduct.

But rather than solve the problem, Uber is just telling passengers to request a woman driver and hope that one is available.

Hi. Are you doomscrolling? A lot of news happened today, and the wildfire in Los Angeles is significant in scope and damage. It's understandable if you're worried. But staring at your phone for hours won't make you feel better. You still deserve time to rest and recover. Try not to stay up too late.

I don’t think people understand how devastating the end of net neutrality, and consumer protections around internet connectivity, are going to be. Imagine the situation where you pay for 4 or 5 different streaming services, each with different “exclusives” — but for the Internet itself.

The paper, The Unpaid Toll: Quantifying the Public Health impact of AI, “finds that the generation of electricity for data centers hosting artificial intelligence applications could pollute the air so much that by 2030 an additional 1,300 people may die prematurely each year as a result.”
AI's $20 billion air pollution problem
Researchers find AI-related emissions will soon rival that of all the cars in California and cause asthma deaths to spike.

This sort of democratic backsliding, where Republicans seek to overturn the effect of an election by reallocating powers away from positions they have lost, has become almost routine now. But it should remain shocking.
Heads up:

North Carolina Republicans just voted to strip the state's incoming Democratic governor and attorney general of key powers — passing a sweeping bill before the GOP most likely loses its veto-proof supermajority in the Legislature next year.

Back in 2017, as now, a lot of people on social media were shouting about the need to organize, and rightly so. But I think one difficulty a lot of people have is that they don't know what that means. "Organize!" is fine as a slogan but it is very vague, especially if you have no experience.
