The "bedroom coders" everyone loves to romanticize were selling shareware. They were selling mail-order software. Victor Hugo wrote Les Mis as a serial for a newspaper and he got paid by the word, which is why it's so fucking long. Labor can only exist if society values its existence.

If you see your favourite indies, especially those who are wide or avoid Amazon, raise their prices... We all just had two emails in less than 24h:

- Smashwords is cutting down its royalty rates, especially at lower price points
- Ingramspark is raising most of its printing costs again

Guys, as a ex call center employee, this is fucking DESPERATION BEHAVIOR.

Pizza and ice cream once may be an entire year's planned discretionary budget for a team, they do NOT value them enough to provide common comfort. If their doing this? Their not just scared, their TERRIFIED.
Spoke with a source who told me the call volume is so high, a call center for both Mastercard & Visa is bringing out pizza and ice cream so agents don’t quite amid the rush. Long waits are causing dropped calls.

What you’re doing is working. Call MC & Visa.

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

Outside of Chicago, on the grounds of a former armory, decades ago an alliance of various orgs began restoring the prairie, and at Midewin Tallgrass Prairie they imported bison to roam the prairie once more. I love to visit my very large bi sons 💚🦬

Time to move past the neverending trial stage. Yes, basic income reduces homelessness.
An Oregon pilot program giving cash to homeless youths sees a staggering reduction in homelessness. The program gave participants $1,000 cash payments each month for two years, and at the end of the project's first phase, 91% of participants reported being in stable housing.

I think this bag is fake.

Hermes's flagship products are handsewn using a saddle stitch. A worker marks the leather using an awl and then threads two needles through from both sides.

This results in a tight stitch with no holes between the stitches. The holes here suggest the bag was machine sewn.
