🔥 This is an absolutely devastating set of figures on the UK public's view of Brexit.

Absolutely damning. Look at each category one by one - particularly the economic ones. YouGov article on these data here. 👉 yougov.co.uk/politics/art...

Really struck today by how many of the people most responsible for the Brexit shitshow were actively rewarded for their stupidity/dishonesty. Knighthoods, Damehoods, peerages, newspaper columns, seats in the House of Commons… It’s a mark of how deep the rot has gone into the fabric of our society.

Happy Brexit Day (2).

Why did immigration *increase* after Brexit, and what do w know about the economic and the labour market impacts?

This is why I've always thought that ultimately we'll go back in - at least to the single market - at some point.

No remainers have changed their mind, and they're a lot younger on average. New voters who didn't vote in 2016 are overwhelming anti-Brexit.
You don’t see a 0% very often in polling - Brexit’s appeal, always narrow, has not expanded an inch (or a centimetre). And people who supported it at the time are mostly of the view that it made no difference. Few major political projects have failed so abjectly to become a settled consensus…

Thanks Peter for this horrifying e‪xposé that Britain is three time more likely to arrest climate activists than any other country. Everyone should watch this shocking film. If you follow George Monbiot let him know too as he'd be very interested (but only on Bluesky as his X account was hacked).

Another superb podcast from the gang at The Rest is Politics. Again they get right down to the nub of the topics of the day with their usual honesty and integrity. So refreshing.

Oh no! So sorry to hear this George. Must be terrible to find out that your account has been hacked. Are you ok? I hope they didn't get all your personal details. Luckily, I never had an X account. I'd hate to have to go through all that. Very distressing. That's why we're all better off on Bluesky.

Agree with Brendan. Absolute brilliance that the Funeral Directors managed to find two jaguars in their fleet to use for former deputy PM John Prescot's cortege. It's particularly poignant as he was known as 'Two Jags' because he used two Jaguar cars to get around. One, his own & one ministerial.
John Prescott and his family arrived at his funeral in two Jags, a piece of absolute brilliance to honour a great man.

Proud to have started following Jon Sopel on Bluesky, another legendary journalist famed for his integrity. Always on the right (meaning correct) side of the news agenda. Can't wait till his next post.
Sad to hear. But what a life. And arguably his best years came after he stopped being president
Breaking news: Jimmy Carter, a no-frills and steel-willed Southern governor who was elected president in 1976, died Sunday at his home in Plains, Georgia, according to his son. He was 100 and the oldest living U.S. president of all time.

"Why not appoint a career diplomat? Someone with actual diplomatic experience?" Once again, Carole asks the questions that no-one else dares to. This is why we need front-line journalists with wide-ranging experience like Carole to hold these people to account.
I get that Peter Mandelson, like Trump, has extensive business experience with unsavoury Russians, so they stuff in common, but here’s a thought: why not appoint a career diplomat? Someone with actual diplomatic experience who could also avoid this charade?
‘I consider my remarks about President Trump as ill-judged and wrong.’

It turns out Lord Mandelson could sink even lower

I think we all have empathy with James's emotional reaction when finding out that the funeral cortege for former deputy PM John Prescott contained two Jaguar cars. It's particularly poignant as he was known as 'Two Jags' because he used two Jaguar cars to get around. One, his own & one ministerial.
Blimey. That actually got me.
John Prescott’s coffin has arrived at Hull Minster for his funeral. Appropriately, the hearse was a Jag, as is the family’s car.

A knowing wink you suspect. Two Jags to the end.

It really is a great piece by @lewisgoodall.com. If you don't follow him, you should because he covers all of the important matters that the right wing ignore with great pieces like this.
Great piece by @lewisgoodall.com

“…that we’re in a position where a UK cabinet minister feels that his saying that the US should not invade a fellow NATO country would be a) newsworthy b) problematic for the UK/US relationship, shows how very far we’ve travelled, so very quickly”

Quite!
Have written about why we should take Trump seriously on Greenland and what is going on with his evolving sense of geopolitics.

A point of rupture between the US and Europe is coming: Britain will likely be forced to pick a side, or be adrift.

Top political guru Ian Dunt wrote the book 'How Westminster Works and Why it Doesn't', in which he explains the problems inherent in the UK governmental system. We're lucky to have such experts on our side to help us understand what is often a complicated subject.
Yes, I've now reached that point. Doing an in-depth interview about How Westminster Works this afternoon and I have to actually read the book to remember what's in it.

Nick Cohen asks where voices are on the British right deploring the abasement before Donald Trump, the authoritarian leader of a hostile foreign power. Of course, it's only us correctly-Bluesky-thinking people who'd notice this. Thank god we have Nick & Co to show the British right up for was it is.

I'm glad I never had a twitter account. Imagine having to put up with all that abuse just for telling people they are wrong. Well at least on Bluesky we can support our political commentators with the valuable constructive feedback they deserve: Keep up the good work, we all appreciate you here!
The only problem with leaving twitter is missing this kind of valuable constructive feedback

You're spot on with this one, Sam. It really is a ridiculous thing to say that "maybe Trump will be good this time". But the fact that don't seem to care makes them appear even more ridiculous then they already are. 😆
I was going to say that all the people writing "maybe Trump will be good this time" pieces are going to look so ridiculous. But they already look ridiculous and don't seem to care.

Absolutely agree with you on the Brexit thing, James, and judging by the replies, so does everyone else. When will people listen?
I am a little bored with the 'What About Brexit?' bombardment tbh but you really can't talk about the UK's "deep economic scars" without bloody mentioning it. Unless you're the BBC, apparently. Its negative impact is not an opinion, it's counting.

t's amazing how far-sighted and prophetic Carole was here. Look how long ago she saw the Trump-Musk crackdown coming and how fast and hard it hit. As she says, journalists will be first. But be warned, because everyone else is next. We owe fearless journalists like Carol a great debt of gratitude.
