Current obsession: Tracking down every last episode of the 1970s BBC series "The Industrial Grand Tour", in which the host visited various Victorian-era factories that were still operating with their original steam-driven machinery

Today in 1785, at the height of Balloon Mania, a couple caused a great scandal when they ascended in a hot air balloon & it looked from the ground like they became the first people in history to have airborne sex. ‬Their names were Mrs Letitia Sage and, um, a Mr George Biggin.

The numbers suggest we could cut the rate to 17%

Or, a better idea, cut the rate to 18% and use the remaining £ in benefit increases and tax cuts targeting those on low incomes, so they're not our of pocket from the loss of the 0% rate.

No-one could imagine Trump speaking to Putin like that. Which is one of the reasons that just happened.

Free speech is going to be such fun when Trump gets his state visit to the UK, isn't it?

Well, the so-called special relationship does rather smack of an abusive one, and has for a long, long time.

Have written about JD Vance’s Munich speech. In what may prove to be the biggest week for European security since 1991, it’s time Europe listened to what Trump and his Vice President are telling us. open.substack.com/pub/goodalla...
We need to listen to what Trump and Vance are telling us.
This may have been the biggest moment for European security since 1991.

The world's richest man - perhaps the richest man who has ever lived - gloating about shutting down aid for the world's poorest people. All while posing as the champion of the common man.

I know I’ve been going on about this for a long time now, but it’s something that just seems so ridiculous.

In a league where all clubs are losing money, to deprive two of the 18 games of some huge selling points just doesn’t sit right.

Thoughts here…

Opinion: Battle of the Smiths should be taking place at the Stoop, not in Spain
On Friday night at the Twickenham Stoop, England's two top 10s should have been going head to head in a crucial shootout for league points.

Sonia (Laura Aikman) stayed in different hotels than the crew to protect the plot.

She even didn't tell her parents she was in it, who are tuning in to the finale tonight alongside her

Not long to go now!
Yes, people will post pictures on social media of sleeping arrangements on Xmas Eve and I will once again attempt to leverage this to raise money for charity — just pinning this to my profile to head off the relentless (i.e. sporadic) enquiries

Four years since I first posted this on the other place and my life became much stranger.
The most stressed out I've ever been about Christmas was when I was 16 and I got my first ever job, working at M&S in Dundrum. As soon as I started I kept hearing these myths about the Christmas Eve Waste Sale, where all the food that wasn't sold on the 24th was marked down 90%.
