shoutout to those of you who correctly guessed it was Larian when I was on here vaguely complaining about a company’s hiring process and warned me that the large scale unpaid writing test with no success criteria was only the start of how shitty the hiring process was. you folks spared me some pain.
Larian's horrible hirring process is an open secret in the industry – insane amounts of unpaid work in "writing tests", excessive numbers of interviews, months and months of back and forth, etc. Everyone in games narrative circles has heard the stories at this point, probably from multiple people.
I know this because they tried to recruit me and I strongly considered it but they’re also a “do an unpaid writing test where you have to also make it playable” company so that’s not something I vibe with

Should go without saying, but if you’re forcing candidates through half-year+ long interview processes w/multiple unpaid tests, etc. you are de facto primarily testing candidates’ financial stability & ability to weather your bullshit. Things like skill, fit, etc have become secondary concerns.
