Wrote a piece seven years ago about how the passing of Holocaust survivors and the re-emergence of fascism was not a coincidence. It didn't occur to me that their deaths would also drive anti-semitism in general, but I suppose I should've seen that coming as well.

Academics and technologists are sounding the alarm about a growing crisis in scholarship as we know it: AI-generated citations of nonexistent papers that have infested real journals. Despite being fake, the sources are widely assumed to be authentic the more they appear in published literature.

Academic articles from authors using large language model are creating an ecosystem of fake research that threatens human knowledge itself.

Move fast, break the government, and starve people.
NEW: Without USAID funding to help buy food for refugees, the World Food Program rushed to prioritize families based on need, determining that only half the population would get food.

Refugees learned which half they were in from a number stamped on the back of their ration card.

The right’s preferred gender ideology—one of male supremacy, women’s exclusion from dignity, citizenship, and vast spheres of public life, and an enforced heterosexuality of eroticized domination—is much more prescriptive, aggressive, and ubiquitously pushed than anything coming from trans people.
Conservatives have their own "gender ideology" they are pushing constantly, and it's one that's built on coercion and treating women like property.

Rumiko Takahashi Anthology. I don't think any of Takahashi's short-form work is available right now, which is an absolute shame because she really shines there. The anime focuses mostly on the stories about housewives and salarymen, and things that shake up their everyday lives.
Name an anime you're sure barely anyone has ever heard of that you discovered on your own (no prior recommendations) & wound up really enjoying & wish more people would check out. Share your cool finds with a reply or quote

a big runoff last night, in New Orleans:

Calvin Duncan was exonerated after spending *28 years* in prison; he tried to get his own case records from the New Orleans city clerk—but the office dragged its feet.

So Duncan ran to become city clerk himself, and yesterday ousted the incumbent.

When I was placed on the Professor Watchlist in 2021, people sent death threats about my children. I had security officers monitor my 8yo at school.

Where is all the outrage for those of us who have been targeted for years? Where is the outrage for our families?

My own colleagues are silent.
