It’s the “season of love and giving”…but this year, doesn’t it seem more like a “season of fear and taking”? Like many of you, I’ve been saddened by the human impact of draconian government budget cuts and how angry many housed Americans are at unhoused Americans.

This exact description of undocumented workers in Korea could have been written about the US.
The 25-year-old from Vietnam had graduated from college and was looking for a job in her field when she started working at a factory to make ends meet — fear of being found out for working outside the scope allowed by her visa led to tragedy.

A nice touch, indeed.
It would be a nice touch if it turned out to be Hegseth who was recalled to active duty (assuming he can be) and then court-martialed. As well as impeached and removed from office. (And it's still not "Department of War.")

U.S. plans for a coup in Venezuela go back to a 2013 program to “increase acts of sabotage that affect services to the population.” While Trump plots to remove Maduro, the Venezuelan people are caught in the middle. From Maureen Tkacik: trib.al/IFgWPax

Re the FBI scrubbing the Epstein Files, this is abs true and is a much bigger deal than you might think. Should the dems retake the House and start investigations...
But the overtime creates records - which means we can find out which agents, and get them to testify about both the orders they were given and the details of what they were told to do.

Lots of concerning things in this analysis, particularly this:

"The NYPD responded to an open records request...by claiming that it could not release information about test results or audits from its Palantir-powered predictive policing system because of a nondisclosure agreement with the company."
Without oversight and transparency measures in place, the growing use of AI-powered tools in policing risks infringing on civil rights and civil liberties by amplifying bias and chilling free speech. Our new analysis details the risks and the needed safeguards needed to address them. bit.ly/44nxPlx

Great discussion here with @heather4dems.bsky.social & @gregsargent.bsky.social. Williams points out that "the idea that all of these gerrymanders are unreachable for Democrats or that there is not a path to the majority is just fundamentally not true.” Dems won in many places Trump carried in '24
Trump's corrupt scheme to rig 2026 is suddenly falling apart:

*Court strikes down Texas GOP gerrymander
*Indiana GOP lacks votes to redraw map
*Big Dem win in Virginia could give Ds more seats

On the pod, DLCC head Heather Williams is informative on what's next:

What this regime apparently wants is for most of our income to be eaten up by housing, healthcare, and food, leaving little $ for much else. But if it were to get to that point & ppl weren't able to afford the "unnecessary" things, you'd see a major disruption to the economy.

Real antisemitism is on the rise in the country, and alongside it, self-inflicted antisemitism that endangers the Jewish community. Robert Kuttner reports on the difference:

Both kinds are on the rise, and feed on each other. But real antisemitism is growing—and the prime minister of Israel and the military policies of that nation are the prime source of its revival.

"...the increasingly transparent absurdity of the Republican position..."

An apt descriptor of basically the past 9 months. I don't see how these people live with themselves.
"Because Trump and his fellow GOP 'leaders' have made their refusal to negotiate with Democrats a bizarre 'principle,' when — as seems increasingly certain — they’re forced to make a deal to reopen the government, Trump, the self-styled dictatorial strongman, will end up substantially diminished."

Whatever happened to "states rights?"
🚨BREAKING: Trump is issuing a directive blocking states from wiping medical debt from consumers' credit reports, according to an unpublished document reviewed by @levernews.com.

As Americans drown in medical debt, the directive is a huge win for Wall Street firms and debt collection companies.
