Rob Reiner’s voice was progressive, but most of all human. What a terrible tragedy. What a terrible loss.

Rob Reiner was an acclaimed actor & director but he was also a vocal critic of Trump

He warned the American public that they only had a year to save their democracy

That year is almost up

Honour his legacy by fighting fascism. Fight for democracy. Fight for what’s right. Fight against tyranny.

I’m just going to tell the story. Back in 2000 I was volunteering for the Gore campaign when he came along with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Alfre Woodard and Dule Hill to a GOTV event here in MN. He ended up sitting down across from me stuffing his envelopes.

I’ve been thinking about this Fresh Air interview with Rob Reiner even before today. So much love and warmth and humor. Then yesterday I watched Spinal Tap 2 and all the delight and liveliness of his performance there

Rob Reiner's 'Spinal Tap' Still Goes To 11 : Fresh Air
Reiner's 1984 mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap sparked a new genre of satire. Now, more than 40 years later, the band is back in a new sequel, Spinal Tap II: The End Continues. "They have grown neither...

I met Rob Reiner when we did Bill Maher’s show together.

He was a good hearted man who fought his whole life for progressive values.

I’m so so sad😢 www.latimes.com/california/s...

Rob Reiner was the consummate storyteller. Over and over, he revealed us to ourselves: what it is to be young and have friends, to fall in love, to feel misery and vengeance, to feel alive. And the laughs. So many laughs. The loss of Rob Reiner is... inconceivable.

Any time I comment on shootings in the US, I invariably get told that "you need guns to defend against tyranny".

* looks back over 2025 *

.... does "tyranny" mean something different over there?

The cultural impact of Rob Reiner cannot be understated. Legend isn't big enough a word. It goes to 11. You can't handle the truth. As you wish. I'll have what she's having. I'm your number one fan. You guys wanna see a dead body? The very idea of a bucket list. The West Wing.

All from his movies.

Poverty is a policy choice. Concentrated wealth is a policy choice. Inequality is a policy choice. None of it is natural or inevitable. Remember: We have the power to build a system that serves the many, not the powerful few.

Young American men volunteer for military service, knowing they may have to sacrifice their lives for their country.
But they didn't volunteer to sacrifice their futures to protect the President or Secretary of Defense from being convicted of crimes.
That's not the service for which we thank them.

As Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis stated in 1933; “We can have democracy in this country or we can have great wealth concentrated in the hands of the few, but we cannot have both.”

Today, at a time of unprecedented income & wealth inequality, his words ring truer than ever.

It is the GUNS.

Increase in productivity since 1979: 87%

Increase in hourly pay since 1979: 32%

Just so happens that ~25% of workers were unionized in 1979. Today? 10%.

As unions declined, the super-rich have taken a larger share of wealth generated by labor. We must build back union power.
