Bandcamp Friday is over for another month, so now's the perfect time to tell you about my music! It means the world to me when people listen to my music. That’s why the world is so trash rn, I did a deal with the devil and I'm a bad negotiator!

In short season 10 of @withinthewires.bsky.social needs some music! It's the final season too, which is sad because @happierman.bsky.social and @j9andif.bsky.social are BRILLIANT colleagues and this has been a really wonderful world to be part of. <3

Once a year, the lesser-spotted Mary Epworth manages to drag herself into a Logic session, to actually record some new music. Today is that day.

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

In 2020 I made "I Told You How Important You Would Be" with @lilyrosesloane via the Songfight project. It's about ghosts and wanker billionaires going up space.

Antifa Activist Michael Heseltine Shifts Overton Window Leftwards

“You described Reform and other parties across Europe today as among the 'right wing equivalents of the fascists in the 1930s'. Why?”

“Because that’s what they are”

@vicderbyshire.bsky.social asks Lord Heseltine about remarks he made at Conservative Party Conference.

the most delightful version of logging on to see what news you've missed
Dr Ramsdell, whose phone had been on airplane mode when the Nobel committee tried to call him, told the BBC's Newshour Programme that his first response when his wife said, "You've won the Nobel prize" was: "I did not."

To which Ms O'Neill replied that she had 200 text messages that suggested he had.

Imagine this happening in the UK and not having to sigh 'what do their parents do?' every time you hear about a new band. Wouldn't it be great to hear music from somebody who isn't directly related to the Lord Admiral Wythenshawe Bloodfeast MP, the Butcher of Bangalore?

feels like yet again time to mention that the *videogames* industry (that's a creative industry, which people do creative degrees in) brings in more than twice the amount to the British economy as the fishing and steel industries *combined*
naomialderman.bsky.social
I cannot understand what these people think the purpose of human life is?

It is *not* "pursue joy, deal justly, love well, try to understand as much and see as much of this beautiful world and of the deepness, richness and variety of human culture and experience as you can before you die"?

How is this repeatedly made into a policy issue - by *all* parties - when the blunt fact of the matter is that grown adults who are obliged to pay for their own education, and relentlessly pursued to repay their loans, should be able to study whatever the fuck they want.

UPDATE: I saw it happen! At the Birds Canada research station at the tip of Long Point I watched an expert ever-so-gently and carefully put one of these tiny tags on a monarch. Let me walk you through the steps (1/4)

So cool to visit the Motus workshop at Birds Canada headquarters. The Motus community is studying the movement of birds, bats and insects. This tiny radio telemetry device will fit on a Monarch butterfly 😲 #invertebrates #birds 🌿 www.birdscanada.org/bird-science...

This is just incredible

A tiny, tagged Monarch butterfly has flown from Southern Ontario in Canada to *Oklahoma* in a couple of weeks, as part of their migration

And they haven't got google maps open on their phones either, they just know where to go

Look at her go!

Ramones played the University of B.C. campus in Vancouver, Canada, in 1980, the same year Tennessee Williams became a writer in residence on campus. (Alas, the events were several months apart.) @raxkingisdead.bsky.social

Some great stuff in the quotes and replies.

I think about Samuel Beckett giving Andre “the giant” Rousimoff lifts as a kid. But maybe that’s missing the point, it’s as much about what could have been

A whole bunch of us have grown up in the UK knowing to flee in the other direction if we spot this flag anywhere. We’re not going to pause to see if there are stickers stuck below them.

And if they’re stuck elsewhere, we will not get close enough to see the text - again, we’re just going to leg it.

This stuff is so tiresome. In a world where hard skills like coding are getting replaced faster than they can be taught, it’s the soft skills that arts degrees teach you that remain valuable.
