So much of American history is just impulsive and extremely stupid elites, who don't believe in consequences because they have never personally experienced them, doing highly consequential stuff because they're bored or believe it might make them richer. I guess a lot of our culture, too.

People aren't nearly as cute or funny as they think they are and most of them use "it was a joke bro" as a fucking cover for being an asshole so they can DARVO you. This is why the assumption is you're a bad faith asshole if you tell a bad joke and blame others for "not having a sense of humor".
