sometimes i think teaching literature is just teaching listening, attunement, becoming subject to the alterity of the text

I’m horrified by Trump’s order to send 300 National Guard troops to Chicago. We’re only nine months into a four year term and already the president is trying to invade an American city. If you’re in the Guard, you can and should refuse these orders.

Why are they reaching for anti-Communism rather than anti-fascism.

Maybe the legacy of McCarthyism is alive and well even in our “liberal” institutions

I understand you are trying to denigrate Bari Weiss with this post, and I approve, but Bret Stephen’s is a NYT columnist…. I guess he has a depth of knowledge on climate denial and hasbara
Staff columnists at the Times tend to be either long-tenured, highly decorated news reporters or editors, or they are recognized experts with a depth of knowledge in a specific field.

It's sad to think that the family that was detained by ICE at Millenium Park on Sunday went because their daughter wanted to visit the park. Should have been an easy choice but now immigrants in Chicago feel they should stay away from parks and refrain from shopping. Disappearing from public life.

NEW WRITING:

I talk about a new memoir that’s set to debut next week from Gazan physics student Wasim Said, aspiring astrophysicist, who has created a forceful record of the genocide. I also share parts of my conversations with Said.

The book is a must read. #BookSky 🧪⚛️🔭

Someone wrote this, at least one lawyer approved it, and someone hit send. I hope she gets Scrooge McDuck money from every dork in this email chain.

The very obvious plan is to use every available means to make the masses stupider & more docile by starving us of the power to know anything.

A good rule of thumb would be to oppose, with the fervent commitment of a zealot, anything that contributes to this general project—like for instance AI
What happens now that SCOTUS has lifted the injunction preserving the Education Department?

•Mass firings will move forward
•Offices will be downsized, transferred to other agencies, or shuttered altogether
•Civil rights adjudication will likely freeze
•Billions in school funding is imperiled

The Israeli position in regards to the West Bank and Gaza--namely that it has total sovereign right over the territory but no countervailing obligations towards the population--is one that I'm genuinely not sure any other country in the world holds towards any other territory, at this point.

Canary Mission is the media equivalent of a paramilitary group. Their tactics are deeply hostile to democratic society.
“If you find yourself on Canary Mission, you’re subject to a lot of harassment and intimidation and campaigns to have you fired,” Ross said. “Character assassination and death threats are pretty common. All of these things certainly happened to me over the years."

God it sucks so much that Trump is right on target with his characterization of universities and law firms: "They're all bending and saying, 'Sir, thank you very much.' Nobody can believe it… Law firms are just saying, 'Where do I sign? Where do I sign?'"

perhaps they are dumb (well, definitely...). but this is a losing story. no one cares about any of this. It's telling that the story has become about signal chat security and not about bombing Yemen. Because apparently everyone is in 100% agreement about bombing Yemen (not me!)
They just have no idea how to do any of this do they.
🚨NEW: Major development.

German newspaper Der Spiegel has found phone numbers and passwords for Hegseth, Waltz & Gabbard in stolen data freely published on the internet.

‼️It includes details of Signal accounts.

“It is conceivable that foreign agents were privy to the Signal chat group.”

Pete Hegseth never should have been tapped for this job. It's too important.

He should be fired immediately.
