hey remember when a bunch of middle-aged drunk korean lawmakers climbed the locked gates to the national assembly to hold an emergency session after the president gave illegal orders to the military, all of which ended with said president being sentenced to prison

I'm back on 5 January, I expect to be able to tune into a post-cabinet presser at 4pm that afternoon www.stuff.co.nz/nz-news/3609...
Are NZ summers too long? The PM says we’ve got to keep moving
The summer shutdown is coming but should the Kiwi summer holiday still stay sacrosanct?

Here's another bit of conventional wisdom Zohran completely blew away: His speech was at well above a 10th-grade level. It was complex, erudite, punctuated by deep and fluent references. You don't have to condescend to voters with baby talk! Part of re-establishing norms is speaking like an adult.

Then Green Party co-leader James Shaw was attacked while walking to work. He suffered a fractured eye ball and black eye, but said he still felt safe.

That's what de-escalation and kindness looks like #nzpol

This is unforgiveable incompetence: NZ has spent $671m to get no ferries, rather than $551m to get new ferries that would be arriving within months to replace clapped-out ferries. This sort of mismanagement should bring down a government; amazingly, it's not even the worst example of their failings

So let me get this straight. We invite the FBI boss to Wellington to open an office. He then says he'll use it to spy on our top export buyer, China, who is then as pissed as. Then Trump HIKES our tariff to 15% from 10%, making us less competitive vs Australia's beef/wine exports to US - still 10%.🤷‍♂️

1% for teachers 80% for their mates on crown boards

Ministers agree to raise board members' pay ranges by up to 80%
The increase for Crown bodies comes as the Govt celebrates tax relief it has introduced.

So this govt’s major fiscal performance so far is: hand out billions in tax cuts it can’t afford, panic and cut essential services left and right, have a brainwave and steal billions from workers via gutting pay equity, expect applause.

Serious candidates in Wellington’s upcoming elections will focus squarely on improving people’s everyday material needs. This means committing to the current council’s delivery of a more reliable supply of clean water, quicker bus trips and more homes to help more people put down roots here. 1/

The govt's third constitutional outrage this week: the secret Equal Pay Act rug-pull, blocking the CTU and other civil society groups from the Budget lockup, now the unprecedented decision to bar democratically-elected Māori leadership from the same Budget

Authoritarian populism wielded as a weapon
This is the worst punishment handed down EVER in our history. The worst on record was 3 days! When Tangata whenua resist, colonial powers reach for maximum penalty. This is a warning shot to all of us to fall in line. E kore rawa matau e tuohu!

For veterans of the Eurozone crisis, this is quite incredible - today Greece has a lower borrowing cost than both the UK and the US for their 10 year bonds.

I had to check, all of the previous so called 'PIIGS' (Portugal, Ireland, Italy, Greece, Spain) have lower borrowing costs than the US today.

It's actually wild that RNZ is publishing this without the context of what was happening between India and Canada in 2023/24

Modi is going after 'dissidents' and framing it up as a national security threat. Failing to understand the context is really bad

The Govt's frothing at the prospect of turning NZ into a Pacific Norway through oil mining & make us all rich.
OK.
One minor detail.

Here, we take a royalty of FIVE PERCENT from oil companies.
Norway taxes oil companies at SEVENTY EIGHT PERCENT.

Spot the difference?
Coz political journos can't.
