An estimated 80,000 people came to the capitol in St. Paul today, despite being told not to come. And a big thank you to @keithellison.bsky.social for leading the march and speaking today, when everyone told him not to. I was there for all of it and I am in awe of my fellow citizens.

I took care of an immigrant kid who had had measles as a baby in her home country and then developed SSPE years later. She died a horrific death despite everything that modern American medicine could provide. People aren't scared enough of measles.
Fact: Years after a measles outbreak, some people may develop a rare brain infection called SSPE. It is almost always fatal.
If you go looking, you can find many new stories about it. But for the most part, it's a quiet harm most people never even hear about.
