imo grimly interesting that a lot of the current wave of misogynists don't even seem to be attracted to women, for whatever reason, feel like old school sexism was "we don't respect them but we want to fuck them", whereas this just reads like weird, poisonous, furious asexual resentment
I don’t know exactly what this moron is objecting to, or if he knows what he’s looking at, because there’s literally nothing deceptive about these photos and Sydney is wearing less on the left!

If you're a non-Autistic person
& an Autistic person is telling you about something they experience, or struggle with,
and it resonates with you...

PLEASE,
🚫 Don't say: "Well, we're all a little Autistic."

✅ Do say: "I find that relatable!"

we are asking you nicely, plz plz stop saying that.

Possibly the biggest resentment my wife holds against me is that I refuse to allow us to have a wood-burning stove, because I understand something about the health impacts of air pollution. I’ll take that as the price to pay for working lungs.
Wood burning is bad for your health. Yes. Even in a Slovenian, rural, mountainous small village (<700 pop), air pollution was as bad as in some of the most polluted cities in the world,

I immediately read this to the intended tune, but reading the comments, is that because I’m somehow better at interpreting context than the Cake-ists and Mr. Brightside-rs, or just that I’m old?

Imagine being a government and having a truly world leading industry that also contributes directly and indirectly to regional and national economy, produces leaders, thinkers and workers of the future and then not supporting it. This is the result - now coming to several UK universities…
What a disgrace the university crisis is. University of York has released 272 staff in an attempt to save £34m. All because of central government's stupid, wasteful and thick policies. www.yorkvision.co.uk/news/difficu...

There’s something surreal about watching NHS staff warn flu and covid are overwhelming hospitals whilst ditching masks and testing. No medic I know takes LFTs anymore. Many see a clinically vulnerable patient with a mask and don’t bother to offer to wear one too. Join the dots, lads.

Today's university in crisis is Coventry, which apparently is going for fire-and-rehire, making people apply for their own jobs or moving them to a subsidiary with an inferior pension scheme. There'll be another tomorrow, and then another the day after, and then another the day after that.

How bad is autism research?
Well, this thread looks at alleged 'inappropriate sexual behaviour' from autistic people.
Or, rather, the lack of research evidence of this, as it turns out.
I took another starting point. Leung & team's research paper of 2024.
They rely on three other research papers:/

Oh FFS, not again. Too many men using autism as a get out of jail free card. Most autistic people, like everyone else, know the difference between right and wrong. In fact, many have a better sense of fairness and honesty than neurotypicals.

There should be a word for wealthy white cishet men who suddenly embrace being autistic solely to try to avoid accountability for their shitty behavior.

Universities do not exist to 'train', produce 'skills' or generate 'impact'. They exist to create new knowledge and teach about it. Any assertion to the contrary is in error, and is destroying everything it touches.

Long thread: You can predict that the usual suspects will latch onto this as another way to hit out at immigration. Here's the thing though, there is a big difference between "causation" and "correlation", and even the "correlation" argument is weak. 1/ #r4today

Are the VC and managers taking a stand of protest and resistance? Hard to imagine that in the UK.
December 3, 2024 at 8:47 AM
British farmers (well, Clarkson-esque ‘farmers’) are taking a leaf out of their French confréres’ book when it comes to protesting, how about we academics (and senior managers) do the same?
FAO UK colleagues: french unis are facing massive budget cuts, forced to reduce numbers. They’re are protesting today; the VC of Lille has closed the whole Uni today to protest.

i am super biased here because i am an academic and would like to continue to be one *but* i do feel there comes a point where you have to ask yourself what the point of ‘the economy’ is if it doesn’t support education or healthcare or the arts or housing or food or water and utilities
not an original observation but i was just explaining that the UK higher ed sector is in a bad financial position to my mum (who’s lived in austria all her life) and it is actually a very strange thing to explain that the ‘education sector’ is struggling
