For the 1st time, archaeologists have direct proof of far-flung social networks during the last Ice Age. “In times of climate crisis, cooperation—not conflict—was a successful strategy,” says @cnrs.fr's @solangerigaud.bsky.social. “It’s good to recall that as a lesson from our past.” 🏺 @science.org

Everything is really scary and horrible, and on the utter flipside, we made these really adorable valentines.

The dissonance of seeing horror, then posting "hey buy some cute valentines" is making me feel loopy.

But also nice things persist despite terror? Ugh idk.

You don’t need a brain to benefit from a good night of sleep. Despite lacking a central nervous system, jellyfish and sea anemones have sleep patterns remarkably similar to those of humans, researchers report.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery...

The Mimic Octopus (Thaumoctopus mimicus) is known to mimic several different animals, including lionfish, flatfish, sea snakes and stinging anemones. They use their mimicry to confuse predators as well as to sneak up to prey.

was randomly browsing r/megalophobia earlier only to see an image of stygiomedusa with a snorkeler at the surface, which is bonkers since it's a deep sea jelly. 🦑🧪

Japetella diaphana is one of the few species of bioluminescent octopuses, and it is one of the few octopus species that live in the open water.

They don't even go to the seafloor to lay eggs. Instead, Japetella mothers carry their eggs as they float in the sea.
