No elected official who refuses to strip money from ICE is going to do anything to give you health care. It takes empathy and prioritization of the populace over the state and capitalists to address both problems, and they don't give a fuck about the voters; we don't pay their campaign bills.
I understand how someone talks themselves into taking the position the masked thugs kidnapping children are a distraction from health insurance premiums (i.e."we have to say only popular things so we can win and stop the thugs") but I don't understand how they sleep at night

One of the biggest problems we face is that as liberals finally wake up and take a more militant footing, they instinctively believe that radicalism is counterproductive and messaging matters most, and so even as they're fighting fascists they'll fight us to demonstrate they're reasonable.
i don't understand why so many people are so adamant that what ICE is doing is not the same as law enforcement. i disagree and i think a lot of the arguments ring very hollow, but more to the point: what's behind the desperate need to protect police legitimacy right now?
