Amidst all this I celebrate the memory of my uncle, patients and families, and the resilience of these communities. I also celebrate the power of modern medicine—thanks to science, with antivirals and other measures, HIV is no longer a death sentence.

I also had the honor of caring for families in the bleeding disorders community that was also devastated by the pandemic as it tainted the life-saving blood products they needed.
