WARREN: More than 70 people died in Samoa because they didn't get vaccines. Do you accept even a scintilla of responsibility?

RFK Jr: No. Absolutely not.
We are cursed to live in the *MOST* interesting times, apparently.

i think powell's response here is a demonstration of the folly of the idea that democratic accountability requires presidential control. what if the president is not acting in the public interest? you want independent agencies to be able to push back and pursue their *congressional mandate*
Powell, showing more guts than almost any GOP legislators:

"The threat of criminal charges is a consequence of the Fed setting interest rates based on our best assessment of what will serve the public, rather than following the preferences of the President."

KO'ing everyone's 401k the week they started bragging about murdering citizens in the street on camera is the behavior of people who are on actual drugs. Not metaphorically, it's the behavior of people with underlying mental illness on uppers and steroids who are starting to feel cornered.

Powell along with the rest of the Federal Reserve personnel has guided monetary policy with a steady hand in unprecedented times. Appalling that this statement was necessary.

I hope this vision can be delivered by a national candidate one day.
“When I speak about making our city more affordable, my vision is not limited to the homes that we live in or the child care that we’re making universal — it’s also a vision where we make it possible for working people to afford lives of joy, of art, of rest, of expression.”

1. This is the morally correct and American answer.
2. This is a message Dems can take to the bank in any election cycle.
Rep. @AOC: I understand that Vance believes shooting a young mother of three in the face three times is an acceptable America that he wants to live in, and I do not. That is a fundamental difference between Vance and I. I do not believe that the American people should be assassinated in the street.

A credulous media will be the death of the Republic
Why would Trump stop lying? It's worked for him so far.
Lying has helped him avoid almost all accountability as a sex predator.
Lying has made him billions.
Lying got him out of felonies that would put anyone else in prison.
Lying has made him so powerful that most media won't call his lies "lies."

What if we wrote about events in Trump’s America in the way that Western media describe African and Middle Eastern countries?

On this idea of a rogue, private police force, it's worth stressing that these ICE officers and their commanders are supposed to be public servants but are in no sense operating as if they are serving the public or bound to the law. They are serving Trump first.
That's what's happening. We're a nation at the mercy of our president's rogue private police force..

Better yet, disestablish all of DHS, and undo the nightmarish idiocies that we created in a panic 25 years ago. Reestablish the INS, get rid of ODNI, fix the damage from the Patriot Act, etc.
For the love of all that is decent and holy: abolish ICE

Note that once approval ratings start going down, they trend basically never reverses. Trump will remain politically weak and likely become politically weaker. There is no political downside to opposing authoritarianism.
