I would be ashamed not to stand up for trans folks, not just because there are trans folks I like and love, but because everyone should get to live with the same personal freedom and dignity I get simply for existing. Who are we if we do not wish for others every right and privilege we have.

Thank you for being a straight cis man with some amount of fame and platform who pushes back on that sort of thing. Marginalization usually only changes when people NOT in the marginalized group start to push back on the hate and move the Overton window.

The Framers were very clear with differentiation. They said “citizen” when they meant citizen and said “person(s)” when they meant everyone. There is a reason only a citizen can be president, but all persons are protected under the 5th amendment.

I cannot emphasize enough that if you feel like everything is totally hopeless and fucked right now- that staying alive is enough at this moment- if that's all you have energy for. Take a day, take a week, grieve. Then sit down, gather your bearings & do what you need to do to keep moving forward.

Is anyone else looking at the world right now and wondering why, in the United States, it is necessary to clarify one’s position on this? Death threats are not acceptable behavior, no matter what you think of a person or their work. This used to be obvious… 🙁 Stay safe out there.

I just got a public death threat from a few folks who noticed I am doing a library event to talk about my career and my books. They called me all the familiar names, then “I won’t be sad if someone shoots her in the face.” And a woman’s reply, “Right between the eyes.”

I am a children’s author.
