feel like there should be an Oliver Sacks type guy but instead of case studies of unique neurological problems its a traffic engineer who breaks down how stuff like this gets designed and built bsky.app/profile/pudg...
This bizarre layout from my hometown of Manhattan Beach, CA. I do not recall an instance of my mother not having trouble finding a spot or trying to leave. It was so crazy they opened a 2nd location less than a mile away with a massive parking complex, and yet this one was somehow always busier.

One lot is on the main arterial from the West Seattle Bridge and I-5. People wait for a spot in the front ten (red), backing up cars onto the pseudo freeway, ignoring openings deeper in.
Or take the steep narrow ramp into the roof triangle and garage, fighting bowling alley traffic.

the trader joe’s on burbank blvd is a nightmare.
the lot is small, cramped, and is set on a corner of an intersection, so often long lines block traffic.
the lot has a one-way entrance and exit that jerks ignore, with exits leading to a long alley that dumps you onto a highway off-ramp.

I should clarify that the thing that is specifically bad about the lot in Bressi Ranch is not the size (its undersized, but not by TJ's standards) but the single point of ingress/egress that overlaps with the front of the store, which causes tons of conflict and insane behavior

Absolutely tiny parking lot in the one in forest hills. Way higher driving rates there (more than 15 minutes from subway) and on the edge of Glendale etc. Absolutely insane drivers.
