Today's economy is just feudalism. A few feudal lords rent-seeking on peasant labor and living. A peasant behind a computer is still a peasant if their value accrues to the boss.

Grind for what? Another country manor for milord? Another estate for them to capture even more labor value? F that.
To me the whole "grindset" shit was the biggest scam ever. They convinced a generation of dolts that breaking your back working 12 hours a day for meager pay or "exposure" was the path to greatness and the rest of us old motherfuckers lived it and learned it wasn't true we just didn't post about it
I shouldn’t have to kill myself to make someone else a ton of money. Fuck hustle culture.

This. For one, I want to see the present occupant impeached, tried, convicted, stripped of his assets, and left in penury and disgrace as a lesson for the future. And he's going to deny that to all of us by dying before the midterms. And we'll all be left with poverty and destruction.
I think that I am most enraged by the fact that the architects of the coming collapse have successfully fucked around, and have left the finding out to subsequent generations.

It's striking how some members of the administration want to create a worse, poorer, American ethnostate and think they need an authoritarian kleptocracy to do that and some members of the administration want an authoritarian kleptocracy and think they need white supremacists to do that.
unironically i think he wants to impose the conditions of his childhood onto the entire country
JD Vance's ideal America is a place with half the GDP where everyone with potential and options gets the fuck out, a shithole that people from countries with actual dynamism visit to watch chintzy 'traditional' dances before going home.

The thing I wish people like Carville et al would realize is that you cannot have ‘pure populist economic rage’ if you leave out the ‘woke’ bits. It doesn’t work like that.

It’s weird to me they don’t see this, so let’s see if we can walk it out.

It blows my mind every time we take the train to Seattle that it's less stressful, takes less time, and, if you include parking when you get there, cheaper than driving. And yet, it runs like twice a day and subject to the vicissitudes of freight trains. It's good but could be amazing.
the fact that amtrak cascades hit another ridership record in FY25 despite shutting down for two weeks and spending half the year running smaller trains with higher prices bc of the horizon recall is another sign that the demand for rail in the pnw is genuinely insatiable

Well, this is a fun thread.

Mine: ebikes and trains good. More ebikes and trains please.

And one should never have to wait more than 5 minutes for the next train or be more than 5 minutes away from a destination when disembarking.
What's your transportation urbanism opinion that you think would make other transportation urbanists mad at you?

I've long said that one of the principal drawbacks of the Internet is the ability of the village idiots to find one another.

It's easy to control one with social disapprobation ("No, Tom. That's stupid."), but when there's a whole world of idiots to enable their worst impulses, we all suffer.
when I was young, i used to wonder how people like this would fare in life, as they didn't seem suited for gainful employment. it turns out, the internet allowed them to accumulate a massive audience of similar idiots, enriching them and turning them into a presidential advisor

The folks who have time and leisure to participate in neighborhood associations need to understand that THEY are the ones who are not representative of the entire district.

It is a privilege to be heard as such, not a right. Thank you @councilorgreen.bsky.social for representing the rest of us.
To those who say that I’m out of touch with the views of my district I say this: I ran for this seat to represent those who don’t get a voice. Who don’t have traditional access to power. You probably won’t hear their voices at a neighborhood association, but they still exist and I am their councilor

Turns out if you try to enshrine bipartisanship in the function of your legislature by making it nearly impossible to pass substantive new legislation without support from the other party, the actual result is you encourage the executive to bypass the legislature & act unilaterally
