Revisiting The Walking Dead comics for some nostalgia, and it's not holding up a lot. It's obviously ok to have flawed protagonists, but self-righteousness might be the dullest form of flaw.
At least I'm finally past where I ended up stopping back when I first read it.

I dunno man, if the WH can point to people from Latin America and say "gang member," and point to people from the Arab world and say "terrorist" or "antisemite," and those designations lead directly to detention or worse, I think we have to acknowledge we're in a pretty bad place.

I dunno man, if the WH can point to people from Latin America and say "gang member," and point to people from the Arab world and say "terrorist" or "antisemite," and those designations lead directly to detention or worse, I think we have to acknowledge we're in a pretty bad place.
This idea that authoritarians have to make the "hard decisions" of using force to oppress, is so silly. Being kind and showing forgiveness, and working out ways to continue forward despite differences is the "hard decision". Using force for everything when force is the only thing you know is easy.

I think I've found a way to articulate what bothers me about the trajectory of the modern tech industry (and to some extent... society).
We are on this Earth to provide for each other. That's the "mission" of humanity as I see it.

My complaint with AI isn't that I think it'll cause an apocalypse or put everyone out of work. It's that I know what they really want it for, which is to offload responsibility. They want a machine to make the decisions so they, the humans in charge, can't be blamed.

Season 4 of the Walking Dead game is worth all the suffering of going through the third season :p just finished the first episode and am looking forward to finishing it up!
