There's a town nearby here in Northeast Texas that's called Bogata, and it's pronounced like buh-goad-uh, NOT like the name of the Colombian city.
merriam-webster.com
What’s the word where you’re from that, when pronounced exactly as it looks, identifies a tourist immediately?

OR, my favorite genre of social media commentary- random dude from a country that hasn't had a statistically significant minority population since an event historians call The Great Ethnic Deathening, regularly enforced in modern times with ongoing pogroms: "wow, Americans are so racist."
nemoblue.bsky.social
random guy online from a country that has experienced at least a dozen government collapses in the last forty years, including several that started major international incidents: "US voters really need to get their shit together"

if you have been told by your administration or your i.t. team or by your colleagues that there *is* such a thing, they are absolutely fuckin wrong, and that's simply all there is to it. if you have paid for such software, you have been scammed, full stop.
nemoblue.bsky.social
I see this discourse is happening again among a certain slice of academics On Here, so I'm going to say it again: there is NO SUCH THING as desktop software, a piece of hardware, a network traffic filter, or an app on your phone that can accurately "detect" AI-produced writing. none. zero. nada.
nemoblue.bsky.social
1. I feel like this is a story that needs to be getting blasted on every TV across the country because most people will freak when they hear these numbers. People generally want the FBI doing its real job!
2. I'm very afraid we are sleepwalking straight into another 9/11-level event.
nemoblue.bsky.social
BUT whatever job losses are occurring—and to be clear there are a lot of layoffs happening atm!—aren't because of AI, it's because AI *spending* has gotten so out of control that companies are trying to free up cash flow by shrinking workforces. Hugely important distinction there.
nemoblue.bsky.social
I think we're entering this era (hopefully short lived!) when a bunch of people who have a vested interest in making AI jobs displacement happen are going to start claiming that ... AI jobs displacement is already happening.
nemoblue.bsky.social
Like, I think the argument that AI is a form of globalization & neoliberalism in the same vein as free trade is, uh, not correct.
nemoblue.bsky.social
Inasmuch as AI is changing the conversation, I just don't see it yet. "We're laying people off because we've shifted so much of our money into building out our AI infrastructure," is fundamentally NOT the same argument as jobs in coal mines & household milk delivery should come back.
nemoblue.bsky.social
It's "a bit harder" to make this argument today only in that Republicans will literally threaten you and have you publicly destroyed if you say it out loud. The *thesis* of the argument in and of itself rings truer today than it did even just a few years ago; the tariffs have proven it 100% correct.
chrislhayes.bsky.social
Basically this was the entire logic fo neoliberalism and globalization - yes lots of job destruction, but prices falling on all kinds of goods and new jobs in new areas. It was taken as gospel that all of it was a net benefit, but that's a bit harder argument to make these days.
nemoblue.bsky.social
eh, "a couple decades" here is understating the development timeline by quite a but. it's gonna be closer to a century (or more) before these kinds of economic effects on migration become pronounced enough for this to happen, but speaking generally, yeah, this is right: people WILL stop emigrating.
opinionhaver.bsky.social
immigration is good and it should be far easier to come to the developed world legally, but even ignoring the quite strong political complications of doing so, we only have a couple decades before the developing world gets rich enough that immigration is no longer a foolproof "add people" button
andraswf.bsky.social
You'd do *anything* but to admit immigration is a good thing

If you look at the sheer insanity of what government officials and agencies openly post on XShitter, it becomes abundantly obvious how much the press is complicit. If Dems did even a fraction of this poasting it would be saturated in news coverage.

1. This is precisely why I keep saying Kan Paxton can actually do *a lot* less damage in the US Senate than he can as TXAG, arguably one of the top 5 most powerful statewide offices in the country.
2. He'll probably just wind up charging leftists randos online who are making death threats.

Citing the “martyrdom” of Charlie Kirk, Texas AG Ken Paxton says his office is pursuing sweeping undercover investigations into “leftist” groups. “To those demented souls who seek to kill, steal, and destroy our country, know this: you cannot hide, you cannot escape, and justice is coming."
"Leftist political terrorism is a clear and present danger. Corrupted ideologies like transgenderism and Antifa are a cancer on our culture and have unleashed their deranged and drugged-up foot soldiers on the American people," said Attorney General Paxton. "The martyrdom of Charlie Kirk marks a turning point in America.
There can be no compromise with those who want us dead. To that end, I have directed my office to continue its efforts to identify, investigate, and infiltrate these leftist terror cells. To those demented souls who seek to kill, steal, and destroy our country, know this: you cannot hide, you cannot escape, and justice is coming."
The radical Left has incubated an environment where political violence is not only justified but celebrated and praised. In July, nearly two dozen armed leftists connected to various Texas-based Antifa-like groups ambushed an Immigration and Customs Enforcement ("ICE") facility in Alvarado, Texas. On September 10, 2025, a leftist assassin connected to the radical transgender movement murdered Charlie Kirk because of Kirk's bold support for truth, love of country, and unshakable faith. Two weeks later, another deranged leftist opened fire at an ICE facility in Dallas.
President Donald Trump has officially designated Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization and instructed his administration to "utilize all applicable authorities to investigate, disrupt, and dismantle any and all illegal operations — especially those involving terrorist actions — conducted by Antifa." Building on President Trump's bold actions, Attorney General Paxton has instructed his office to initiate sweeping investigations into radical leftist organizations engaged in or providing support to those performing political violence.

feels like yet again time to mention that the *videogames* industry (that's a creative industry, which people do creative degrees in) brings in more than twice the amount to the British economy as the fishing and steel industries *combined*

I cannot understand what these people think the purpose of human life is?

It is *not* "pursue joy, deal justly, love well, try to understand as much and see as much of this beautiful world and of the deepness, richness and variety of human culture and experience as you can before you die"?

How is this repeatedly made into a policy issue - by *all* parties - when the blunt fact of the matter is that grown adults who are obliged to pay for their own education, and relentlessly pursued to repay their loans, should be able to study whatever the fuck they want.

For a short while there was a really thorough supercut on YouTube of him veering into 'rape is lulz/fine/good' territory over the years, but he gets super aggressive with takedowns over any kind of media that makes him look bad, so it got pulled.

I mean, he's all but endorsed sexual violence as a weapon of war at least a few different times, as long as it's the right side being on the receiving end of it. Hell, just a few months ago during one of his tangents about Gaza, he said who cares as long as it's not the US or Israel perpetrating it?

One of my truisms in life that has never failed me even once is that you can ALWAYS judge a man's character 100% based purely on how he treats his dog.
jelenawoehr.bsky.social
y’all’s leftist crush is at the very least trash-talking his dog as “spoiled” for wanting to stand up and walk around, and quite possibly using a shock collar on her, and fans on reddit are saying they got permabanned from his stream for mentioning it in comments

One of my neighbors has been buying gift cards for WIC recipients that get distributed by the local food pantry, and I feel like that is a waaaaay more reliable & safe route for getting funds to them than Trump somehow magically changing how appropriations work.

Well that's not how appropriations work at all

I snort-laughed when I read this skeet because I recently watched a bunch of Christmas in Europe videos, and this was like almost verbatim the description of every other European state's favorite holiday festival lolol.

Apparently the last 50 years worth of European ineptitude and bed-shitting is entirely the fault of wealthy American saboteurs. Listen man, I think Elon Musk and the entire Murdoch family should spend their lives in prison but the US is not your sin eater.

"As a European I am very afraid watching what's going on in the US and hope you get your act together soon" is one of my least favorite genres of posting. This is like the *one* time in the last 100 years we've looked (operative word) worse than Europe, you don't get to play concerned onlooker!
