#classicalmusic #opera I had some misgivings about this book because Benjamin Britten is not my favorite composer of operas. But the Amazon description is very interesting: "opera-singing Welsh miners"(!?) Blimey! 🎶

This book means more to me than any other book I have written. I want to get copies into the hands of everyone who cares about opera or is interested in the broader cultural history of our country.

Please consider buying a copy. Thank you. 🙏

Substitute "Mozart" for "Bellini" and that's not a bad list. 🎶

🎨🐕 Well, hello there, #ArtfulPup! This week’s canine art feature is English artist William Barraud’s circa 1845 oil painting of Lord Henry Bentinck’s terrier and foxhounds. From the collection of Paul and Bunny Mellon, we saw it on view during the Rokeby Community Festival in Upperville, VA.
Framed oil painting in landscape format showing three dogs in a stable or tack room. One foxhound is standing in right profile; another is laying on the tiled stone floor in left profile, nose to nose with a small white terrier.

#math #physics #mathsky It's nice to know that I could still do a problem like this in my head. If your last step was (36 -15) /7 then you probably did it the same way I did. 🤓

Thanks for that amazing bit of trivia! It sounds like it would make a good topic for a future book by @phalpern.bsky.social .

Feynman was charismatic and approachable. I asked him to write to my mum in the hope he could get her interested in science. The gist of his letter was “Dear Mrs Chown, Ignore your son’s attempt to teach you physics. Physics is not the the most important thing. Love is. Richard Feynman.”

Oh wow, you had Feynman as a lecturer! From the T.V./ and video I've seen of him, he seems charismatic and inspiring. I wonder if that was true in real life or if it was a case of 'never meet your idols'. I hope it was the former.

"A healthy democracy should be able to absorb horrific acts of political violence without abandoning its core principles. That we cannot — that a single act of killing has become an excuse for vilifying an entire political orientation — shows how far we have fallen."

#classicalmusic #opera When I see "Gustav Holst" I can't help but wishing that he had stopped writing "The Planets" long before he got to Neptune. 🤮

Happy 151st Birthday to Gustav Holst, born on 21 September 1874. I’m doing the obvious thing and listening to some of my most treasured versions of the planets. What would your choices be?

It's a custom-made mask fitted for a software engineer in northern Virginia who suffered third-degree burns on her face when the Tesla Model Y she was in crashed and caught on fire. A heroic crowd of bystanders could not open the doors
