it's worth noting 1) that there's a longstanding tradition of trying to play solidarity against basic self-respect and 2) that the Combahee River Collective's coining of the term "identity politics" was directly in response to this
i also believe in building a better world for workers. i also believe that all people are entitled to respect and dignity and that there ought to be social sanction for those who openly degrade others. you call me a “n*gger” to my face and i am not going to smile and shake your hand.

Thank you Wendy for providing great reasons why all my Cardiff University colleagues should post their votes today in our current industrial action ballot over cuts, closures and horrific workloads ❤️
Cardiff University’s plans to cut 400 academic jobs and close several departments prompted a media firestorm that heaped opprobrium on its v-c. But she also received support for her efforts to put the university back on an even financial keel, she tells Chris Havergal

I'm in Nairobi this week for the opening of the inquest into my sister Kate's death here, almost four years ago, which is still very much unsolved. The case has been beset by obstructions and evasions; it's taken us a long time to get this far and there may be more to come.

This is what happened at Coventry; I did not apply to their fire and rehire scheme because I couldn't stomach the changes they were making to our contracts - not only getting us off the pension but totally changing our academic contracts.
Vile stuff. At my own university all new staff are employed via a subsidiary company to avoid the TPS pension (remember: pensions are pay) and we all fear the costing staff will be next. Management think staff are so desperate that they’ll accept anything.

Remember: university managements are so…

If you have a vested interest in HE, this concerns you.

We must stand together to resist these outrageous proposals.

We need a bigger national spotlight on this building raid, fam. Agents dropped from helicopters onto the roof. Citizens and non-citizens alike were dragged from their homes in the night. People who weren't kidnapped during the raid had their belongings seized after the fact. This is madness.

Proud personally to have both written evidence for the Supreme Court lately, AND not signed a facile and racist letter whinging about free speech alongside JK Rowling etc. But then I guess I’m just a different type of historian to Sam here
The history profession is in free fall, but its members can write liberal briefs that are cited in dissents to conservative decisions. Doesn’t seem like a great deal all told.
