The most common non lethal form of police brutality? Sexual assault. When you get into why IPV is so hard to stop? Take a good look at the projected IPV stats for every level of the criminal justice system. Cops, prosecutors, judges & politicians

Yes there are lower level trafficking cases involving MOC but largely crime is intra-racial. The biggest threat to white women is white men. It has always been white men. The biggest threat to Indigenous women is also white men. The people peddling fear of MOC are profiting from trafficking

A gross historical fact about white slavery panics (that's all those narratives around trafficking going back 100 years that blame Black & Brown men for the trafficking of white women) is that anytime you dig into actual trafficking cases there's rich white men in the mix as purveyors and customers
A central motif throughout the drug panics has been the specter of predatory drug dealers forcing innocent young white girls into sexual slavery. Swap out “scary young Black guy” with “old rich white man” and suddenly there’s no urgency.

Everyone is understandably sharing the Miller quote, but I found this response from photographer Christopher Anderson to be notable, too.

A story I found about Haiti:

In 1999, a group of Haitians were tired of political disorder and dreamed of a better life in the United States. So they built a small, 23-foot boat by hand using pine trees, scrap wood, and used nails. They called the boat "Believe in God."

One way that the reaction to Rob Reiner's murder mirrors Charlie Kirk's is that the best way to eulogize each of them is to quote their words, and in both cases, doing so pisses off conservatives.
Rob Reiner: “Silence in the face of authoritarianism is complicity. Speaking out is a patriotic act. Democracy doesn’t defend itself. It requires participation, vigilance, and courage from ordinary people."

“What happened to <insert public intellectual>?” Oh they’re stupid. They’ve always been stupid, in the sense that the ideas they have are bad. They experience the world in a stupid way and draw stupid conclusions because they’re stupid. People just think they’re smart because they had a blog

I am fucking dumbfounded by this:

“Sometimes, the most practical solution is also the most moral one,” Fetterman wrote.
Fetterman in his letter argued that the trial would allow Netanyahu “to devote every ounce of his energy to the complex threats facing your borders.”

I’ve cried so much this year. Sad stories, happy stories, children singing, children laughing, damn near about everything. The last time I felt this raw was after my second was born. A friend referred to postpartum as being a walking open wound, in my perimenopause era I guess it’s about the same

These are good moments to remember that the CEOs of all the biggest companies in America are happy to go to White House dinners and slap this guy’s back. They do not care about this. Remember this, years from now, when they want you to forget.
Trump: "It’s a hellhole right now. And those Somalians should be out of here. They've destroyed our country. And all they do is complain, complain, complain. You have her. She’s always talking about the Constitution provides me with – go back to your own country and figure out your constitution."
