I’ve been organizing for many years now and I was so delighted to print this out and spend some time with it today. Highly recommend this as a resource to clarify your work and your own strategies for survival right now!

I'm not worried about saving "democracy" or the "rule of law" or even the idea of the USA. I want to save us, you, myself, my queer kin, BIPOC, friends, comrades, darlings, friends, chosen family, neighbors, a healthy earth, etc

I want living things to flourish as never before & systems to perish.
“Saving democracy” is not the same thing as saving people.

I don't think most people understand that if they've had COVID they're probably going to be hit harder by illnesses going forward. (Even aside from that, many seem to be unaware how serious flu can be.)
The “it’s just a flu!” COVID minimizing language has made people downplay the risks of COVID & forget how serious flu can be.

After 5 years of COVID reinfections it’s hard to know if you’re “healthy”

“I wasn’t aware that the flu virus could do something like this to a perfectly healthy child”
Arkansas teen placed on life support after catching flu
This flu season has been rough in Arkansas and nationwide, with thousands of hospitalizations and deaths.

One thing I will say gently is, I think "mutual aid" sounds academic or theoretical to a lot of people because the US education system does not meaningfully teach Black history.

Formal mutual aid societies were an integral part of how freed/escaped enslaved people helped each other survive.
This is a great thread, but what struck me about it is that my grandmother had a term for what's being described here. She called it, "being neighborly," and it was just par for the course in the small town where she lived for most of her life. "Mutual aid" sounds academic, but "neighborly" doesn't.
I think a lot of people have mutual aid confused with charity on here, maybe because folks most often see it in the context of fundraiser asks (which are great!).

I want to talk a little about what it looks like in everyday life.

Because we need it more than ever. Government is getting shredded.

It will be easy to fall into a pattern of dunking & reacting in these times. Performing disapproval can be a consuming pastime & it is not enough. Refuse to abandon vulnerable people. Build a rebellious culture of care. If you need help, @prisonculture.bsky.social and I wrote a book to assist you.

The revolution most definitely includes reciprocity, rest and joy. Anything you can contribute to nourish Toya and help her feel supported as her new year approaches would be much appreciated! 🙏🏼✨❤️ 🥳

What determines the future is not what we destroy but what we build.

The system is currently collapsing on its own. For it to fall, we just need to stop holding it up. Interact with it less daily & by degrees as able.

Create new in the shadow of the old. Show what's possible & ppl will join.
